Service Plans? Extended warranties?

I bought my DVX in September from B+H in New York, and have postponed researching a service plan til now. I don't know if its too late.

Are there Panasonic or third party service plans available for purchase?
 
When you purchase from B & H you have 30 days fomr the purchase date to buy an extended warranty. I don't know any company that would sell you one after 30 days

If anyone knows of other options, please let me know.
I know some people will insure items, possibly through homeowners insurance. Any thoughts?
 
I have mine listed as 'personal valuables' on my home contents insurance. It covers you for theft or accidental damage (you don't have to be at home to be covered), but probably wouldn't cover mechanical failure or other stuff that a warranty would cover.
 
Home/renter's insurance will cover loss, loss of use, theft or damage as a result of anything you don't do to the cam, but it won't cover things that may go wrong after the manufactueres warranty expires.
 
FWIW: I think the MACK warranties are absolutely worthless. If you read the fine print, they basically cover only the tape transport.
