Serious Magic's DV Rack

OK so the LCD & EVF on the DVX100 are adequate for framing etc but not so good for colour and focusing (especially with a 35mm adapter), I want to get a good 7" monitor to add on but don't have the spare bucks lying around. What I do have is a good new 14" Asus laptop with Serious Magic's DV Rack. I'm new to DV Rack and haven't fired it up in the field yet. Had a brief run the other night with my DVX and seems like a great system. I realise using a lappy in the field is going to be somewhat more cumbersome than a nice bolt on LCD monitor but it's not going to cost me a cent which is a big benefit at the moment.
Is anyone or has anyone used DV Rack in the field (with a 35adapter) and what are your impressions of it???
Your info may or may not save me some cash!!

There is no better software program ever made than DV Rack.

Okay, well, maybe there is, but dang if DV Rack isn't close to the pinnacle of "goodness". I used it for an entire feature a couple of years ago, and while the director had never seen it in action, he swore that he'd never shoot without it again.

With that said, it's a bit less useful with HDV for focusing because HDV introduces a 1/2-second lag into the firewire stream. But for DV it's great, and you can show full-screen or even zoom in further than pixel-for-pixel.
