Serious Magic/HVX

I can verify that this is a great bunch of guys. I've known most of them for quite a while and they have done some SERIOUS MAGIC over the years!:)
I'll be getting one to smooth out the production process!
Thanks guys!!!

It's not a joke, it's bloody phenomenal. I've used it briefly and it was amazing. On this same laptop that can barely choke out 2fps of DVCPRO-HD in the Avid quicktime codec, Serious Magic HD Rack can play 60fps full-screen full-frame rate 720p!

It's early, it's not done yet, and they said "6 to 8 weeks". But it looks like it will probably be everything I was hoping it would be.

FREUDENBERG_FILMS : Look above... It seems that it will be out by the end of this month or so... Barry Green is beta testing it so he knows what he is talking about.

I hope it works. I got the inital Beta, but couldn't get it working with anything DVCPRO 50 & HD.
After spending acouple days on different computers, I reported everything and was pretty much blown off.

It does work with 720 and 1080 and DVCPRO50. The version I'm running is still early beta so I can't say how solid it is or how close to release it is; hopefully one of the Marks or Karls from Serious Magic will weigh in and tell us more about when the next update will be released and when the final version will be offered on the market.

Even being in the beta state it's in, I consider it a must-have. Obviously there are issues to be worked out, and I trust they will succeed in working those out.

freudenbergfilms: DVC Rack is still in beta. Other R&D priorities derailed development for a few weeks, but we're now back working on it and I'm hopeful that we'll see rapid progress. I can't promise when we'll have the next beta build ready much less when we may release the final product.

Jack: My apologies if you felt I blew off your beta reports. Reviewing our correspondence, I'd say we were pretty quick to diagnose that SP1 was the cause of your initial problems. Once you installed SP2, your reports were consistent with what several other beta testers were reporting--at that point there was nothing more to do until we could get another beta release out the door.

Boy...what a blast...this is precisely what will put me into an HVX. Now, when will Vegas support DVCProHD

Barry: I really don't know anymore if we SHOULD work native with DVCPRO-HD in post (beyond simple editing) David Newman from CineForm made some strong arguments that can't be ignored. There is much much more knwolegble people around as far as goes to technology for me to judge, but I am wize enough to figure hat there is probably an issue. I hope that you could step up in CineForm thread and tell your opinion about Davids statements. My expirience with AspectHD trial and Premiere Pro 2 is that it rocks.

Mark, sorry if my post sounded alittle harsh. I am looking forward to your product.

Hi all, does anyone know when the DV app from serious magic will be released, I have emailed them and haven had a reply yet?

Cheers

Question..... Will DV Rack support us here in Pal land??????

I saw DV rack when Barry Green came to brisbane Australia. From what I saw of the standard DV program It was sweet as.

When I asked the DV Rack guys just after NAB if full PAL (meaning 720p) support was planned they said it was. Haven't heard anything since, but hopefully that has not changed.

DV Rack already fully supports DV in PAL & NTSC. For DVC Pro HD, we plan to support all frame rate/resolution settings in both PAL & NTSC. We do not have a PAL version of the HVX in-house, but several of our beta testers are so equipped and I trust they won't be bashful about telling us of any problems.

Incidentally, if you're signed up as a beta tester, the long-awaited new beta release should be forthcoming next week.

Is it still possible to sign up for the beta? I already own the normal DV Rack, though not the HDV pack. Has a decision be made whether HDV and HD will be combined into one product?

Software development processes through different stages.

A beta version or beta release usually represents the first version that implements all features in the initial software initial requirements.
It is likely to be unstable but useful for internal demonstrations and previews to select customers, but not yet ready for release.

Jenn.

In addition to what Jenn said, a beta release also serves a definite purpose for the software company in that we get useful feedback about what's working and what's not, what features should be added or modified, etc. That's a valuable supplement to our internal testing, particularly with regard to getting the program running on a far greater variety of hardware than we can test in-house.

And yes, we are still accepting beta testers. If you're interested, please email me at mmapes@seriousmagic.com.
