serious focus problems in N.O.... help?

Hi folks, I'm in New Orleans working on a show for Court TV & there are absolutely no qualified repair shops for 400 miles. Basically, I think the camera got dropped by someone on my day off & now the focus is behaving very strangely. I have always zoomed in to get focus & then pulled out to shoot. I know this isn't 100% fool proof on the 100a, but it's been working just fine for my run & gun purposes until the other day. Now I find that if I'm all the way zoomed & set my focus to say, 75, When I pull back, my focus is COMPLETELY different. not just 77 or 72. It's like 99. In fact, unless I'm more than 1/2 way zoomed in, my focus only looks a little sharp at 99.
Does anyone have any advice??? I'm a little desperate here as I think the only way this is going to get fixed is if I figure it out myself... Any insight is greatly appreciated. thanks. Ava Berkofsky

THe camera should hold focus if you focus while zoomed in and then zoom out. If it's not, it probably needs repair. I've shot with a DVX that had a similar back-focus type problem, and as I'm sure you've discovered, it's a colossal pain, since tv shooting requires the ability to zoom and hold focus.

The following things probably wouldn't cause the problem you describe, but I mention them just in case, since in a run-and-gun situation, switches can sometimes accidentally get flipped:

Is the auto-focus switched off? Is the diopter set properly?

Best of luck with your camera.

It definitely should hold focus throughout. Now, with that said, I believe I've heard tell of some people with DVXs whose focus stopped working entirely, and they were able to get it working again by doing a hard reset on the camera (poking the recessed "reset" button with a paper clip).

Might be worth a try?

thanks guys- i'm going to try a hard reset & if that's no good, then i'll have to rent. appreciate the input immensely!
