Serial Number In Footage?

Yes. at least I believe so. All of the data is on the P2 card after its been recorded. If you put that card into a camera and go into vfr mode you can access it. select the clip and select properties and there are a bunch to choose from on the right, "device" will give you the type and serial # of the camera that was used to shoot the clip.
This is stuff that is on the P2 card so if you were to import using fcp you lose all of that extra info unless you have kept copies of your original P2 cards. In that case you may have to put that information back on a P2 card and then read the info in a camera.
That process can be very hard and tedious and I this that the easiest way to do what you say you need to do is to use PCMS2. This will only work if you have your P2 originals or copies of the cards. Open the cards that you want with the app and control click (for a mac) the clip and select "property" and it will give you the type and serial # of the camera used to shoot the clip.
Hope this is what you needed.

The camera records its serial number as well as the serial number of the p2 card, the model of the camera you shot the footage in, and other various meta data entries you can input via SD card into the HVX200 (camera operator, location, time and date, etc)
FCP converts mxf files to mov and in doing so strips out most of the meta data, but if you have 5.1.4 or later, simply mounting the original p2 image (if you created a disk image) or loading the p2 directory via the import>p2 menu, or the Log and Transfer menu in newer versions of FCP will allow you to see the meta data. Simply right click on any of the columns and it should allow you to check/uncheck different items you can view.
I believe some of the PC based NLEs, specially those that allow native .mxf editing, will allow you to see the meta data from the get go. Vegas is one of them I believe, and maybe Premiere CS3? I'm pretty sure Avid doesn't support it, but not sure. Not really up-to-date on the PC side of NLEs
If you are not using FCP or are looking for a free solution on the PC side to check the meta data, downloading P2CMS from Panasonic (I believe there is a PC as well as a Mac version) will allow you to see the meta data of your .mxf files. P2CMS is a great solution for P2 offloading and mxf file managing.
Regardless of platform and software, it should be relatively simple provided you kept your .mxf files. Good luck.
