Sept 1st LA meet - Venice Beach - 10am

Okay guys, to get a chance to meet MattSTL how 'bout we all meet up in front of muscle beach in Venice, 1pm, Saturday, September 1st? I suggest we toss around a frisbie, play some beach football, eat some fried food at one of the greasy eateries there at the Venice walk.

Is this is a good time, who's in?
 
Hey Matty, bring a frisbee or football even, one of those small footballs, like junior size, works better at the beach.
 
Since I'm going to be there I think we should do this at the place next to muscle beach... you know, right down the walk a bit... the cellulite mud-flats. Should I tan a bit or is it cool if I look like Stardust right after she hits the earth? Are people into ultra-whites out there? If I run around in my briefs people will think I'm streaking with a reverse tan-line.
 
We can go wherever we want, I just think we should meet at a place we all can find, from there, we'll hit the beach, eat, whatever.
 
Tommy - too bad Noel can't make it, we'd make a great football team, well, rugby team, now playing touch rugby, that would be fun!
 
Just so you know... my flight leaves at 5:40p... and I have to return a rental car... so that means I can stay until when? Probably about 3p or so? How long to LAX from Venice Beach?

Also... where the heck should I stay? What part of town? I've stayed right ON sunset blvd before and a few other places around LA... just wondering what your thoughts are?
 
Matt - you want to meet earlier? 10am? 11am? We can at least play two hours of football and then eat, be done early, how does that sound, what works best for you?

I don't know where you want to light? Hollywood? West la? Santa Monica? Venice?
 
I don't want this deal to be about ME... I just wanted to pop in and meet some people and snap a couple of pics.

This will be the third time I've said this, but I will be in town from about 10a on Tuesday the 28th until needing to be ON THE PLANE at 5:30p on Saturday the 1st of September.

I assume that with LA traffic and returning a rental car that means I should probably be heading TOWARD the airport by what? 3:00 or even 2:30? Returning a car doesn't take that long... but LA traffic sometimes is NUTS. I wish I would have left the trip under it's original schedule... which was Sat to Wed... but I figured that for most of the stuff we'll be doing I'd rather have more kids in school.

But anyway... that's what I have going... I'll do my best to work with whatever I can and still make my flight home.
 
...i'll come in my cut off jean shorts and sweet rollerblades.... thats required in venice right? I will also bring my broken dvx, and see if anyone else knows whats up with it.
 
I'm open Brandon... I'm bringing my GF out there and I want to entertain her a bit... the last time we went on anything resembling a vacation it was Key West and I didn't realize that there isn't anything to do down there! She says she still had fun, but I felt like a jerk for picking that destination (lots more went wrong... if somebody from southern FL gets offended I'll start posting pics and we'll all have a BIG laugh... it was the vacation from Hell)... but anyway... I'm open.

Here's what I had in mind... a day of Disney and/or Universal Studios... at least a walk on the walk of fame... probably eat somewhere around there also. There was a little diner on the corner of sunset and whittier (I think) that I liked when I was out there... a greasy spoon kind of place... just right for me.

Also I want to see SOMETHING at Mann's... just to do it. The last time I was out there The Matrix was playing... I knew ZERO about it... and the girl I was with at the time didn't want to go... burns my ass. So... if anything good is playing then I'd like to do that... although somebody told me that the Egyptian is a better theater and that they have nights where the director talks to the audience afterward... either of those things sounds good.

And that's about all I have solidly planned... the rest of it could be just whatever. If any of that sounds like fun to other people on the boards then you are very welcome to join us or we can plan out a group thing. I think stuff like Disney or Universal is more fun as a group anyway... and we'd probably all have a blast.

Aside from all that I am very open to suggestions! Unfortunately this trip has got to be done a little on the cheap though... so things like Catalina Island (is that from LA?) are probably out.
 
Matt - it's not all about you, but since you are here, we will try to accommodate you in time so you can have some playing time with us. How early do you want to meet. I don't think anyone minds it being early, might be better just for parking and stuff around Venice to be early.

If you go to Hollywood, eat at Verts at the Kodak, pretty affordable for good food. If you go to Disneyland or Universal, there at Hollywood someone is always passing around coupons (if you don't get one from your hotel) and it will save you I think $8 per ticket, not a bad savings. It also never hurts to just yell out at the ticket line, "anyone have coupons?" - uh, we got tickets that way when we went.

Forget shopping at Beverly Hills, instead, bring her down to Santa Monica, to the 3rd Street Promenade, there are always street musicians and magicians to keep you entertained.

So what time, 10am? 11am? Playing some football early then having lunch works for me. Anyone?
 
That works for me Charli... Forget shopping at Beverly Hills? Why? Do they sell coochie bags anywhere else? I want to get my girl a genuine Loo-ee Fattonn bag or something.

:-) We won't be shopping anywhere! Shopping is for losers... or at least losers with money to spend.

Sounds FUN! :) I'm down for some Disney action... my brother and sister-in-law live down in Anaheim, so I was planning on purchasing a pass anyways... What day would you think you'd go? I have one more vacation day from work...

Let me know if you end up going that direction.
