Separate Audio & Video?

Hey all,

Not really sure how to explain what I'm trying to mention which is why I'm seeing what you think. It was tough to do a search because I wasn't sure how to enter this type of filming into a phrase.

Does anyone know how this is achieved? Were the video clips shot 24p, then slowed, while keeping audio the same/not slowed?

I've seen this done a lot - not only in skateboarding videos but also on Nat Geo (like during 'Lions fighting in the jungle' type scenes :))

Here's the example (Watch between 3:10-3:42)

Regards.

What NLE are you using?
without knowing I can only say... drag the video only into the timeline. then drag the audio only into the time line and then make your edits.

Thanks for the reply. Right now I'm working with Vegas Pro 11. I'm going to try and experiment this weekend.

In Vegas Pro 11, (or any other vagas bundle), you can separate the video and the audio in at least two ways.
1. Select the clip and then press "U" to un-group the clips. You can then work with each individually. After "slipping" the events the way you want, "CTRL + SELECT" both the audio and video, and press "G" to group them back together.
2. There is an "Ignore Event Grouping" (CTRL + SHIFT + U) at the top of your toolbar. With it selected, you can move each piece separately.

Either way, the audio and video clips will get a RED notation of how far the two events are "slipped" from each other.

Another third way is to just stretch or slow down the clip (I am assuming that you are CTRL dragging your clips) and then right click on the audio portion and go to properties and you will find a Time and Pitch shift Method. Just set that to none. Your audio will not be effected by the speed of your video.

I am at work so this is by memory. I hope I've helped and not confused.
