Hi Guys,

I am starting the weekend in a sad situation. Today during a job in a beauty sallon I suddenly had white spots on the screen. It was so bad I had to quit shooting.
The damage is pretty bad.

Since it is weekend and it's just happen I can't reach the sony helpdesk.

Do you think it is possible Sony can replace the sensor?
How much would that cost?

It's just bad it's just happend during the start of the weekend because I can't solve things with repairservice.

I'm going to cry this whole weekend. :)

Hope some of you can take little pain away by saying it can be repaired for a few bucks.

Sample of damage in first reply.

Grtz,

Joost

Try doing a black balance, but that won't be a final solution. And of course, try cleaning the sensor using the best possible procedure/equipment.

Just from looking at the image, it doesn't look like a sensor damage. Can you see the specks (damage?) on the sensor with naked eyes?

You can't see the damage on the sensor itself, looked very very good for that in daylight.

Thank Kraut69, for the quick reply and good suggestion. You great. This black balance thing is a weird thing.
I did it 1 time and the damage got less. So I thought I do it again maybe it get less than this. 2e time it got like before on the picture above.
Then I did it again and it got like the first time. Later I will try to clean the sensor. Try to find out what the best tools are. I have an old DSLR set for this but try to find the best and how to use it best.
It can save me tons of inconviniance. I'm booked for wensday till sunday. You made my weekend a little better Kraut69 thx. Picture from new result below.

I do not want to get you down more , but what is it on the left side of picture and the right side of bottom ?damage_sensor_afterblackbalance.jpg

Hey Joost,
If you put the lens cap on and raise the gain to 30db does it get worse? It could just be a few stuck pixels. I have 1 white stuck pixel area on mine that looks v similar. I can black balance it away, but I remember hearing that the FS100 black balance will only hide a set number of issues, after that you're switching back and forth between areas that its hiding, which is why it disappears a little then appears between balances. If the areas too big as in your case, the bb wont hide it. If you've got Prime Support Sony will most likely replace the sensor without problem for free as they did with me (a week door to door, and they offer a loan camera too) when I had a bunch of stuck pixels that wouldn't b balance.

@ tim: Your a great troll Tim :)

@ showman. How brighter the image is how less you see the damage. So on high iso it get less.
It is indeed like a big bunch of dead pixels. I didn't buy an extra support clausule or so. But good to know they can do it.

Thx

it's NOT a laser-damage on your sensor! ..

This is what it looks like when the sensor hit by laser:

and.. I don't think it's a good idea to ask your DEALER "how much it cost you... :) Contact Sony Service directly! .. as this maybe covered by warranty! :) .... they will make simple REMAPING propbably ..

Thanks Serge, good advice.

My damage looks very different indeed. Will contact sony I keep you guys informed.
Already knew but DVX is a great community.

O-gi makes a great plug-in (video noise) to fix this kind of damage in post, only avb for DS & Flame tho, but it might be worth sending just the frames affected to a house that has one of these tools for a fix?

Not sure if there's anything comprable in AE or others, i've had the O-gi plugs for years now in both my DS's, we use them daily.. check out the both the smoother & soft clip plug-in as well.

edit to add i noticed that they are now avb for Smack now, so the price of entry just dropped

Hopefully everyone in the shop was wearing goggles. Sounds like a dangerous work environment. Sorry to hear about your sensor. I'd want that replaced if possible, rather than some fix that risks creating artifacts in new footage.

Boris FX has a plug in for Premiere and AE which is pretty good, it makes a composite of the surrounding area by sampling a whole bunch of pixels and plugs it over the trouble spot, but these don't work as well on big areas though. If you're camera is pretty new you should be covered by warranty, hope you get it sorted.

Thx for the tips but I rather don't fix this in post.

Called Sony Netherlands this morning and they sended me tru to a repair house.
Called the repair house if I could bring the fs100 there for reparation. I could they said.
Drove 2hours south. I came there and suddenly they relized fs100 is a pro-serie model and they don't do pro series.
They told me the right adress and that is driving 2 hours north of my place.

To be continued

just in case you still need sensor cleaning equipment in the future, "Visible Dust" gear works great for me.
