I noted a black spot on some material recorded this week, so whipped the lens off, flipped the mirror and had a look at the sensor. There it was a tiny black grain of sand - not surprising really as I'd been shooting video of coastal erosion, and actually caused some and did an avalanche down the cliff when the ground collapsed around me. Anyway - I easily removed it, but on the sensor was what looked like a hair, in a small figure 8 shape. It refused to move when I carefully wiped, so I got a magnifier and had a good look - and it's not a hair, but a blemish in the sensor, and not on the surface, but under it. The odd thing is that it is invisible in the image. Shooting a white card and then, magnifying the image produces no sign of it. The camera is quite old now, but I'm assuming this is a blemish that I have never noticed as it doesn't impact on the image - what I can't understand is how something I can clearly see is invisible. I'd guess it's about 3mm x 1.5mm - but something this big SHOULD be visible shouldn't it?
