Sennheiser's sound a little distant

I just got an EW112 with an ME2 lav. When my subject was wearing the mic at a little above chest level, it sounds far away when I get it into FCP. Not super far away, but a little distant and echo-ish, if that makes sense.

Now, I'm looking at my manual (maybe I should have done that first), and I'm reading that in order to avoid overmodulation the receiver and transmitter should be about 5m apart. I was in this guys face with a shotgun and receiver mounted to the HVX - maybe two -three feet. I'm not sure what overmodulation is, but does it have anything to do with the audio sounding a little echo-ish and distant?

what camera are you shooting with and how many audio tracks are on your FCPtimeline? im gonna bet 4.

it sounds to me that you MIGHT be hearing your lav track WITH either the cameras mic or the shotgun at the same time. which would produce the problems youre having.

i suggest unlinking the sound from video, then listening to each track individually. figure out which is the lav and delete the rest. then re-link.

that MAY solve your prob...

This might be a far off guess: but are you sure you didn't import sound from one of the cameras built in Mic at the same time mixed with the Lav? (or on the opposite channel)

That's the only time I've ever noticed echo in FCP from a Lav.

oops wgzn beat me to this response :-)

Please read the manual and test out your audio before shooting. Make sure your levels on your Transmitter, Receiver and camera are set correctly.

FYI, overmodulation is when your audio level is too high. You audio will be distorted.

Sounds to me that your levels are too low if your sound is distant.

When monitoring your audio, use a VERY good pair of headphones.
