[WTB] Sennheiser MKH416

Looking to pick up a second MKH 416. Only willing to spend up to $650. It’s expensive new but I’ve seen lightly used ones go for less than $650 since its somewhat old tech.
 
Last year around Black Friday, a couple/few places were selling new 416 mics for $600. Places like B&H, Location Sound, and um, others? Maybe wait a week and see if that deal comes around again?

Also Pete Verrando, a good mixer in Texas, has a little side biz updating older T-powered mics to P48. Primarily (and perhaps exclusively?) Sennheiser 416 and Schoeps CMC4, IIRC. Some good and picky friends who've had Pete update their older mics are really happy with the results.

So yesterday, Pete posted on Facebook that he had a couple/few upgraded 416 mics for sale. IIRC, he provided detail about the condition and said both were sonically fine. I'd trust his evaluation.
I think he wanted $550 for each.

I just picked up a 416 off Ebay for $600. You should be able to find one used if you keep a notification thing from Ebay active. Also, as previously mentioned, there might be sales on the 416 for Black Friday/Cyber Monday.
 
Be careful with eBay on Sennheiser 416s. There are LOTS of counterfeits of this model in circulation. A quick google will bring up stuff on it.

The idea of getting one from Location Sound or B&H on sale is a good one, in my view. I see you live near NYC so you should add Gotham and Pro-Sound to your list of vendors.
