[WTB] Sennheiser ME66 microphone - cash or possible trade

Can you compare?

Can you compare?

What is your opinion of the NTG-2, especially if you compared it to the ME66? I have the ME66/K6 (AA) with Rycote Softie for my Panasonic GH2 DSLR, but the ME66's output is a bit hot, so I pad it 20 db but the GH2's AGC seems to introduce low-level low-frequency hum during quiet moments. It sounds fine through a Sound Devices MixPre with pad.

Hence, I'm considering the NTG-2 if the output is low enough that I don't have to pad it. Let me know if you've done a comparison especially the output levels, and the availability (or unavailability) of your Rode. Thanks.

Thanks for the offer raqcoon, but I have already found a Me66.

To answer your question though, I was seeking out the ME66 because it is a lot more sensitive than the Rode NTG-2. I'm going to run it through a passive xlr adapter like the beachtek and the NTG-2 because it's not as sensitive introduces more noise because the GH2 agc has to crank it self up. But with a ME66, through the passive adapter, I can always turn it down and keep the GH2 agc to level 1 and still get a good signal feeding into the Gh2.

However, running a Sennheiser ME66 or the Rode NTG-2 through your MixPre will produce a much better sound and I would use a mixer with good preamps, but I just don't have one at the moment and my setup is more run-n-gun.

Thanks,
Andy

Thank you Andy for the explanation. I did more tests with my ME66 and GH2 and I did not hear the hum I mentioned in my previous post. Therefore, I can only presume it was the environment. Anyway, I'm glad you found an ME66, and I'm going to keep mine. I realize the ME66 gets a bad rap, and it does have an "edge" about it, but generally I find it to be OK to very good, although not excellent. I think that "edge" is often why a person's voice can cut through the mix in a noisy scenario.

My latest endeavor is to find a higher end shotgun mic, and I posted an ad here on DVXuser for a Senn 416 or Sanken CS-2, although I included the NTG-3 in my post. But probably I'll focus on a Senn or Sanken.
