Sennheiser K6/ME66 or Panasonic AG-MC200G?

What is everyone using for an on-camera mic? I've used the Sennheiser K6/ME66 combo in the past with good results, but it's at least $150 more than the Panny mic. Is it worth it for a mic that will really only ever record ambient sound?

Hi Cees, the 416 is a great mic, I've used it for years as an audio tech for booming interviews, etc. It seems like a lot of mic (and a lot of money) for an on-camera mic, however. But hey, if you've got the money to spend, you can't go wrong with it! :)

As for me, I'm leaning more and more toward the simple Panasonic mic as I don't need anything better for recording simple ambience. I see Beach Camera has it for $299.

no doubt the 416 is great, but i heard that the Ntg- 3 Rode y as good as the 416 but much cheaper.

i have in my hand a K66, perfect. can do almost anything.

so the 416 is if you really need to if not even a ntg-2 fis fine. or a at-875.

I own both of those mics that mountainmedia is referring to. I keep the Panny 200 on the camera, and I think it is great, so that would be my recommendation. I use the Sennheiser rarely. It works great with a Rycote Softie outside on a boom pole. The Sennheiser would probably be too long to put on the camera if you use a light - I think you'd get a shadow from the mic.

Thanks for the additional responses, everyone. I wish I'd seen about the Audio-Technica AT875R earlier - I placed an order with Beach Camera yesterday for the Panasonic 200 (for $100 more!). Hopefully it's worth it. If not, that A-T mic looks good...
