Hey everyone,
So a good friend (editor) of mine has agreed to help work on numerous mini projects for me - I shoot and digitize the footage to make life easier for him. He will manage the rest post prod. Because we live on opposite ends of the Bay Area, we're trying to devise a way to send footage and final projects back and forth without having to meet up all of the time or mail anything. We have 3 ideas, but were curious to see if anyone out there has done anything similar.
Project properties
- 30min to 1hr of digitized footage
- final projects cut to 2-3min
- final projects used for web
IDEA #1: Set up a network storage station at my location that he can access remotely through the internet and download raw footage. Once he's done editing, he'd upload the final product back to the storage station for me to access.
>> Since I would be connected directly to the network, I know that uploading/downloading wouldn't be an issue for myself, but I'm curious to know what sort of bottlenecks the internet will cause on his end. Will his internet connection speed play any role here?
IDEA #2: Convert footage to torrents - again, access and download remotely.
>> We've attempted this before with about 10 min of raw footage and it took rougly 2 hrs for my to uncompress. Very little quality lost as well.
IDEA #3: Rent server space from a local server house and upload/download through it.
>> All I know is that this can get expensive!
BACKUP PLAN: buy two external hard drives and schedule lunch somewhere in between every week to trade
So has anyone out there done something similar to any of the above ideas? If so, would you care to share your thoughts? Please feel free to throw any other ideas out there as well... I greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!
