250€ for shipping?
Apparently... Im trying to find out why I was so sure shipping was included.. I even think I asked Sony myself..

Well I can only blame myself I guess..

But If there was anyone else like me, well now you know at least.

500€ is for the upgrade (Without VAT)
and shipping for me was 250€ (from Sweden to England)

Quick update: I was contacted by Sony today for payment on the upgrade. They said it would be performed today and shipped out with overnight delivery. So I should have it back in my hands sometime tomorrow!

The answer I got now:
"Hi Tony, We have clarified that the logistics should not normally be covered under the €500 repair cost however as a gesture of goodwill, we will cover this."

freshTEA: I also live in Sweden. After reading your former post I e-mailed Sony about that cost and got this answer today:
"I can confirm that Upgrade won’t cost more than 500€ "

This all seems very unprofessional. If they're not charging the shipping cost, why did they charge you? I'm considering not to buy the upgrade at all. After all, is it worth it? Apparently they won't allow Odyssey 7Q to record 4K in 50/60/100/120 fps and the 2K is not good, even in regular frame rates. I guess it's better to buy a Blackmagic Production Camera instead (since it delivers the same frame rates as the Odyssey does in 4K, but also has a global shutter) and use the FS700 with it's internal codec, or sell it I guess. The option is of course to buy Sony's recorder and then not being able to shoot 4K on a steadicam or most handheld shots, just on a tripod. One might as well get an assistant to carry that brick around as well. :thumbdown
All this would of course not be a problem if Sony allowed the Odyssey 7Q to record the camera output like Sony's own recorder, but I guess they've never considered that it might be a smart move to make their customers happy.

freshTEA: I e-mailed them about what you wrote regarding the whole matter with additional shipping costs and "gesture of goodwill" and this is what I just received as a reply:
"We can’t confirm comments on internet
I ensure you the upgrade cost 500€, no extra shipping cost added"

Honestly I'm really confused.. at least it is on the way back now so thats good, but yeah it did give me a headache..

I can understand your point of view.. I mainly update for the use of s-log2 and the use with odyssey 7q. the 4k is lovely but as for now im only gonna use it if a possible client wants it.. Im really interested in the 4k down sampled to 1080p with 10-12 bit preserved, that to me is at the moment the most important.
Hopefully CD will get the approval to do at least 4k 60fps in the future so we can use the non continues slowmotion for 4k.

Thank you for letting me know, incase they did insist on charging me for the shipping (which they dont) :)
To be honest the guy from sony I talked to didnt seem to sure either, he said he asked someone the same day and they thought it wasnt included.. so yeah..

I got my email from Sony and sent off the FS-700. Not sure how useful it will be, but if I decide to sell the FS-700, it will be very useful. It is odd how much time we seem to spend in Limbo, waiting for someone to provide the solutions we most want.

I am in the same boat as freshtea. Not sure how much I'll use 4k uncompressed, but 10/12 bit 1080 444 RGB is an amazing tool. Especially since CD is pulling it from the 4K feed.

Haha btw, I sent it to Sony and it took 1 day for them to get it,
Now that I wasnt willing to pay for the shipping they are using another carrier for the way back, they sent it today and it says I won't receive it until Wednesday haha I can only presume they now took the cheapest option to send it back.. thats cheap

Well, it seems they're not handling this in a professional way.

I'm actually not that interested in 4K raw, I was hoping to use the 2K raw mostly, but since it seems to be in inferior quality, then the 4K is the only option. As you say it's the possibility to at least shoot 60 fps continuously in raw or other high quality codec that is interesting, but the only way to get it is to buy the huge Sony recorder which is practically of no use other than shooting from a tripod and almost as expensive as buying an F5 and getting a much more usable kit and better camera. What makes this most annoying is that the 7Q would be able to do all this if Sony allowed CD to develop it, but apparently they're more interested in losing customers...

I guess the S-log feature might be worth something, and if you don't have a good monitor then the 7Q is more justified buying. If you already have a good monitor I believe it's better to buy a BMPC. It'll cost you about the same, you'll get DaVinici Resolve included, global shutter and a camera that will most likely be able to actually shoot 4K raw and of course dnxhd and prores, internally.

mmh... But have in mind that 7q might very well take the 4k raw from the camera and output it to 2k raw that looks crisp and tidy :)
From all I know they just dont have the license to record into 4k raw but they can still read the raw signal from the camera and output it to 2k raw (since they do have the license for that)

Im thinking CD is already doing it with the 1080p.. why not do it with 2k raw as well?

but yeah the BMPC internal codecs are nice :)

im using a fs700 and a mark III at the moment, So im trying to fetch a decent 128 GB komputerbay card that can give me atleast 90MB/s so I can output raw from it :)

I hope you're right freshTEA, I'd love it if CD could get this to work. They've been really professional in the way they've kept us updated. I just hope that Sony let them make the best of their recorder. As I've understood the 7Q is a much more capable recorder than Sony's bulky piece, it would be a shame if it couldn't be used in the best way possible just because of Sony's policies.

Ah, so you have a 5D mark III, that's nice. Have you tried shooting with the new Magic Lantern mode yet? I've been thinking about getting one, but mostly for stills actually. I have a 7D and a GH2 now, but could find some use for a GH3 for video. But there are many things I'd like to buy, but can't afford them all at once. :) The BM Pocket Camera would've been great, if the crop factor wasn't the way it is. But for now my main priority is the FS700 and what to do with it in the future, since I'm about to buy a steadicam system where Sony's own recorder will be impossible to use.

Sony bad. They let CD design much cheaper recorder by sharing their propriety RAW with CD, but according to you, that is bad Sony policy. Dude, why don't you just sell your FS700 and buy much cheaper 4K black magic camera? I asked you this before but you continue to post same crap about bad Sony "policies".
