Sending the fs700 to sony for upgrade

So we've been talking about sending the camera in for what seems like ages now.

Anyone have a solid date on when they will start doing the upgrade? I seem to remember it being July, and July is here now. Tobyloc's S-Log 2 tests have got me excited about this.

What about those who purchased the FS700 used? Will we be required to pay full price or will it only be $400?

Full-price? I thought $400 WAS full price! Haha. I can't imagine them charging more if you bought the FS700 used.

Woo! Just got my go-ahead from the Teaneck service center to send in my FS700 for upgrade. Turn-around is apparently two days right now. Luckily I've got a little bit of down-time before shooting mid-month, so looks like I'll be dropping it in the mail today for the upgrade!

EDIT: Shipped off around noon today. Supposed to be there Monday AM. I believe it's going in as a priority repair, so hopefully it's done quickly and on its way back to me by the end of the week. I'll keep people posted on the progress.

I just got my email from Sony (teaneck center) and it was a specific hardware repair form with my name, email address and number. The form read: NEXFS700U 4K Upgrade, of course I filled it out and then printed it. Directions were: place on the outside of the box when shipping to repair center. It was from a woman named Amy. I emailed her back asking if I can drop it off (hand deliver) in teaneck and asked do we need to send the lens too. Haven't heard back yet, I sent it yesterday. I'll keep you posted. Thanks

Does the upgrade buy you anything if you don't have the Oddesy 7Q or Sony recorder? Does anyone know?

You get Slog-2 and another new picture profile (which I know nothing about). Several members who have tried Slog 2 and posted some tests all say its very useful.

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but sony europe have put up the details now. Details on http://www.sony.co.uk/pro/article/broadcast-products-hxr-ifr5-1306 .

"You can purchase the version 3.0 firmware upgrade on its own in order to make use of third-party recording options, or to take advantage of the extra features, such as S-Log2. The version 3.0 firmware upgrade costs just 500 EUR* and includes: collection, firmware upgrade service, sensor cleaning** and return."

Great news. Did you send the lens too? probably a dumb question :p

Thanks
Anthony

I didn't send anything but the body. I removed battery, SD, etc.

Marino215, are you close enough to just drop it off? I'm in Minnesota, wish there was somewhere closer. I put a copy of the form in a packing slip sleeve (clear envelope stuck onto the box) so the "Sony FS700 4K Upgrade" was big, bold, and front-and-center.

The he woman who emailed me mentioned something about "Put 'priority repair' on the outside of the box" but I hope the form in the sleeve is enough, I didn't put anything else on there.

Hi jshbckr,

Thanks for the info, I am in NJ though 1 1/2 hours away. I better hurry up. I'm thinking the early we get it there the quicker the service. Hoping to get it there by Monday. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,
Anthony

Ah, lucky. I would have loved to save shipping costs and take a nice little drive to hand deliver it! Haha. Just drop yours off after 10:30am (when mine is supposed to be delivered) so it's in line behind mine!

Follow up: package delivered safely to the Sony repair center. Hopefully now I get that priority repair they were talking about!

My experience so far getting the upgrade in Sweden:

8 July
UPS knocks on my door around 4 PM I put my camera in the box and he took it with him. (I called before hand and told them the situation)

9 July
2 PM I receive an email that they have received the package in Great Britain and that it is currently being repaired.

At least by the look of it I might not be without my camera for so long. :)

Got a call from the east coast center in NJ, camera is ready and will ship out today with overnight delivery.

Total was $432.00 USD.

Awesome, so overnight shipment was only $32? When did you send it in for repair? Since mine arrived yesterday AM, I'm hoping I can get it back by Friday.

Has anyone shipped it or dropped it off at the Los Angeles Sony Service Center yet? I know there a few of us in LA. I cannot do it until about 2 weeks from now because of shoots.

I'm still waiting on an email to tell me they're ready for it. when I called a while back I was told that "the cat was out of the bag a bit too early" and that they were trying to get the parts supply ready for what they expected would be a high demand.
