hi i just learned that all the semi pro,hd camcorders are compresed video,is this true.is the hvx200 compressed hd.is a uncompressed dvcam format, better than a compressed hd.thank you
Anything digital is compressed. Period. That is the nature of digital.
The thing you want to know is how much it was compressed and by what methods.
Most prosumer HD cameras shoot HDV or some variant of HDV. HDV is high-definition video that has been compressed using interframe compression. Look up interframe compression in your favorite search engine and see what it means.
The HVX 200 records DVCPRO HD to P2 storage cards. DVCPRO HD uses intraframe compression and has a data rate of at least double HDV and as much as four times.
As to whether HDV, DVCPRO HD or standard definition DVCAM is best for a particular project, ultimately only you can answer that question.
Anybody feel free to correct me if I got something wrong.
