Hey, since we got the HVX-200, we're looking to sell a Sony PD-170. It is in great condition and only has 280 hours of operation and 60 hours on the tape heads. The Firewire/1394 port is touchy, but I always used a deck or a cheaper camera to capture footage (to keep the tape head hours low).

I am selling it with a mechanical underwater housing built specifically for the PD170 (Retail value: $1,300). The housing can be completely submerged in water--great for stock footage, underwater action scenes, and intense rain. Never underestimate the impact of water photography--it makes any project look ten times as big.

Also included are:
  • One eight-hour battery with charger and AC adapter
  • Sony .70X wide-angle conversion lens
  • Professional Digital .50X wide-angle lens with macro adapter ($250 retail value)
  • Professional Digital 2X telephoto adapter ($250 retail value)
  • Ikelite .66X wide-angle adapter (built to work with the underwater housing)
  • Kata rigid clamshell case (the best camera bags in the world, $100 retail value)
If you care to see an award-winning short shot with this camera, including underwater photography, check out www.myspace.com/especiallyneat (title: My Daughter is Dead). This is the NTSC (American) version of the camera. Shipping will be $75 (insurance included) to anywhere in America because the underwater housing weighs about 20 lbs. If you have any questions, please PM me or send me an email at joe@especiallyneat.com. I would also be more than willing to speak with potential buyers over the phone. I have a paypal account, or I will take a cashier's check or money order. I have a 43, 100% positive rating on eBay. You can check out my profile: joe_the_marvelous.

The starting price for the whole package is $3,700 or best offer. I'm a little anxious to get this sold, so I'll take the first reasonable offer.

The housing has a tripod-like baseplate that you screw onto the camera and then slide into place in the housing.

I wouldn't doubt that a DVX would fit in the underwater housing, but the mechanical controls are built specifically for a PD150/170, so you wouldn't have any way to control the camera once it was locked in. Unless you had a remote control or a wireless iLink device or something of that nature. Of course, this is all speculation. I have not tried to fit a DVX in there, and I don't know for sure that it would work. But I guess I don't know for sure that the controls wouldn't reach either...

Tell you what: if I get ahold of a DVX sometime in the near future, I'll try it out. Otherwise, I'll try and track down the model number of the underwater housing so you can look up information about it on the 'net.

I confirmed with my director that the housing was not built for a DVX. With a little R&D you might be able to make something work, but I'll make no guarantees.

On the other hand, you could always shoot your underwater stuff with the PD170...
