Selling my EOS30D for a GH1 -- Question

Hi everyone,

I've decided to sell my Canon 30D for a GH1 and have a few questions. I have two lenses, a EFS 18-55mm and a EF 75-300. I am pretty sure the EFS won't work with the GH1 since it is designed to fit closer to the 30D's sensor. The EF should work, but I am doubting that it will be a good lens for cinematography (the primary reason I am purchasing the GH1).

Do you all have any thoughts on the lenses? More than likely, I will sell them with the camera body, but wanted to pick your brain first.

Thanks,

Shawn

Actually, it looks like both the EF and the EF-S will work. Here is a video with the EF-S http://vimeo.com/5473689

I am still thinking of getting rid of these lenses. I am leaning towards the pancake and the Nikon 50mm 1.8. The video above has a fish bowl effect that I don't like.

The problem with EF lenses is that the aperture is controlled electronically from the camera body with no manual ring on the lens so on a GH1 you will not be able to set aperture.

Thank you all SO much for your posts. This confirms my decision.

GH1 has been ordered! (Now let's hope the firmware is still flashable!)

The most impressive stuff I have seen come out of the GH1 were from Nikon lenses and Leica lenses. THe only better glass I've seen shooting on the GH1 were PL Mount Lenses. Of course, the PL Mount lenses are a whole different category of expensive but I plan to buy the adapter so that I can rent the lenses when I need to.

yes i heard you cannot control aperture for EF lenses. the only way to do it is to mount EF lens on a canon, make the aperture the size you wnat it, then take it off put it on GH1 and it will stay that aperture. if you want a different aperture rins and repeat

i don't think the josh rawiri vid is PL lenses I thought the guy used Zeiss contax lenses which aren't that expensive. contax series can be found on ebay for a few hundred each. i could be wrong

if you want to see real PL mount GH1 footage google Vimei Rejouer. it's a gh1 feature film shot with Hot Rod PL Mount and cine lenses

Very intereting. Does this method apply to the Nikkor 50mm 1.8/ Gmount 4/3 adapter on the GH1?
