Selected path does not contain a P2 volume

HELP PLEASE!!!
Okey, this is how it went.
On my last production we decided to shoot on HVX 200 with the P2 cards, in 720p. After each P2 card got filled up, we put the card in the my computer(Powerbook G4) and copyed the entire content on my drive. Renaming them content1, content2 and so forth. Content1 to Content31 is now on my external harddrive and im trying to open them in FCP 5.0.1 using import/panasonic P2. But i get this message; "Selected path does not contain a P2 volume". I've read a bit about it and downloaded P2log to see if i could get out some information without success, i got pretty much the same message as FCP, not a P2 volume.
Can anyone help me out???

Thank you in advanced.

Chris

You can't rename CONTENT to CONTENT1 etc. -- you should have created one folder for each of the P2 cards with the CONTENT folder and LASTCLIP.TXT file.

You may be able to open the clips by renaming the CONTENT1 folder back to CONTENT, and using any old LASTCLIP.TXT file. I don't think FCP really needs them.

Also, you should have FCP 5.0.4 at a minimum. FCP 5.1.1/5.1.2 are preferred because of bugs in P2/MXF handling in earlier versions.

before a shoot i make a series of folders inside a main caputure folder named 001 002 003 004 005 006 etc
then drag a card into each folder in order as I offload while shooting until I finish.

P2 data is about keeping the file and directory content of the card within its own folder

One step further

Thanks for your help, FCP did open the files in that small FCP P2 browser, and i could see the thumbnails.
However, when i chose to import one or more files i got this message; "One or more P2 clips failed to import; probable incomplete or corrupt clips"
Whats that??
I also tested it by making an empty LASTCLIP.TXT file which didnt work, same message. Can it be that i dont have a lastclip.txt file in my directory? I cant find it anywhere. Can anyone e-mail me a lastclip.txt file to test it?? You see, this project was in Norway and i leased the equipment, but im now in Ithaca, NY for uni.

Cheers

You'll get that if a clip spans two or more P2 cards -- FCP isn't able to locate all of the pieces of the clip. I'm not sure how FCP handles imports of spanned clips, hopefully someone who actually uses a Mac can chime in.

One thing you could try (using a COPY of all the clips) is to combine all of the clips into one CONTENTS folder. Hopefully that way FCP doesn't have to go on a hunting expedition to track down all of the pieces.

Yeah i will try that. When we shot this film we used two cards on rotation. But does it meen that i should copy all xml files(from 31 contents folders) into one CLIP folder which is in one CONTENTS folder?
2)
Another info to add. I tried to use HD log(DEMO) and P2 log (DEMO)and i could see the files and whatch them, but all files where corrupted. It was like if the screen was divided up in 10 vertically lines and every other line was not in sync. They where a bit higher up in the frame. This is all digital data, so i refuse to believe tha all my files where corrupted in the same way. Am i the first one to see this?? Please help me!

hmm, okey. But how do you do it BenB?? Do you have another OS? I saw your tutorial and it was good, however it didnt work out for me as i have FCP 5.0.4. Do i need to have 5.1?
I did whatever suggestions i have gotten so far, but still i get this message; "One or more P2 clips failed to import; probable incomplete or corrupt clips". Can it be something very easy that i have missed?
Thanks for all your help so fare
Chris

P2 cards don't span clips "exlusively". They have the metadata an application would need to span them. But, as recroded, they're independent, there's no maditory spanning.

My tutorial, yes, uses 5.1.2 as is stated at the begining.

OS X has a P2 bug. I've used P2 Log to import clips FCP found were corrupt. And I have clips both claim are corrupt. I've had some P2 Log claims are corrupt, but FCP imports fine. Who knows? I'm just waiting for Apple to get it in gear.
