Hello, my name is Darren Dyk, and I am going to be traveling with Metro Skate Shop filming a documentary as part of the YouTube Next Up program. We received a grant to go pursue this docu and will be traveling from early August until early October. What we need is one more person willing to travel with us who has a solid grasp of cinematics and preferably of action sports.

If you are interested please and live in the continental US, then send an email to darrendyk@gmail.com and give me links to examples of your best works and/or your demo reel. We will definitely respond to everyone who sends us a message. If we like your work, then we can discuss further details on what it would look like being involved.

Thanks in advance! Also, here is a letter from Joel Jutagir, the owner of Metro, explaining more about the trip. We will be leaving from Peasant Hill, CA come August 12.

My name is Joel Jutagir, and I’m the owner of Metro Skateshop. Metro opened in the east bay area of San Francisco ten years ago, and since that time has turned into a local hub for creative types of all walks. We are more than just a skate shop; we produce weekly videos, support local artists and host skateboarding contests and spots. Creativity and community keeps us steadily growing.

Recently, we were lucky enough to win a contest put on by YouTube. We pitched our dream project. The idea is to make a documentary about a specific childhood dream and the ambitions that are typically shelved to make room for adulthood. The film will follow a 16 year old skater named Daniel Dubois, as he sets off across the country on a month long road trip to discover skateboarding, spots and new perspectives on the activity he's been passionate about since he first started riding a skateboard at 10 years old. We're interviewing kids that are just starting to get into skating, professional skaters as well as those that've centered their lives around the activity and become the leaders of the skateboard industry. Their stories will help tell Daniels story as he travels, spends weeks away from the comforts of home, and meets skaters from all different backgrounds and lifestyles. The unique characters and obscure locations that make skateboarding interesting will help tell this story.

Beginning on August 8, a team of filmers, a photographer and some talented young skaters will be venturing East fromCalifornia across the United States to meet pros, young up-and-comers, familiar industry personalities and a ton of eclectic characters united by their love of riding a skateboard. We want to feature as many different viewpoints and original visuals as possible. Thanks to our vision being supported by YouTube in the form of a $35,000 grant to make the film, 16,000 skateboarders that view our videos on our YT page http://www.youtube.com/metro236 and USA Today’s frontpage coverage, as well as generous support from Deluxe, Es Shoes, Ambiguous Clothing, we believe this could be the strongest documentary of its kind. Hopefully this project sounds exciting to you and we can work together to make this undertaking a legitimate expression of the love all of us feel for skating! Thanks for your time, cheers!
