I know hot to access it, but what do all the options do? Can you really see how much wear your heads have taken by using it? I'm very curious to try.

i dont know much about the menu, but my suggestion is not to mess with it, you are liable to really really screwin ur cam up bad if you switch something accidentaly.

Policar, DON'T mess with the service menu, you are very likely to render your camera useless. In order to access and use all the functions you need to attach a pc to the camera via a service connector. The pc runs a special diagnose/adjusting software which is used in conjunction with the service menu. There's a very good reason for that menu to be hidden.

Good safety tip!!

Thanks...

I won't mess with it then. I just think it's cool that there's apparently a way to see how clean your heads are, or at least how good the signal is that's being written to tape.

No, it's not. In normal operating conditions you can't say what error rate is caused by dirt on heads or by wear. Also there's no available info about the tape path - you need a callibrated test tape for that. Forget about the existance of that service menu, you will have a thing less to worry about. That is unless you really want to become a qualified serviceman (you don't, beleive me - Ive been one for a number of years...).
