Second Round of Blackmagic 4K footage

I don't get it...?? What are people looking at? The footage on Vimeo is low resolution and there is no download option available.

"Experience". You learn a lot from watching even proxies of actual footage. You learn to see signs and get impressions based on past exposure to similar workflows. I can tell basically how detailed this is and basically how it handles DR by the crappy HD copy of it. People get impressions that may cause them to investigate further. It is also a good way to see HOW it compresses since most of what people shoot here ends up on the web anyway. If a camera and codec/workflow look bad on vimeo, it might point to how useless it may be overall.

Looks a lot more promising than the first round of footage, clipping seems to be quite elegantly handled, which makes the limited DR more manageable. I do like the 'stability' that the global shutter adds to the motion.

The motion does seem to have a little extra magic to it... Especially the shots with people. Think the DR is more than fine for nearly every filming situation I can imagine. sure, it clips, but in a nice enough way.

Really nice if you ask me. And I don't see lacking DR anywhere.

About the motion thing: in all the low-key clips it looks fine to me, but in the brighter ones I do get the Saving Private Ryan feeling. Am I the only one? It may be, because I was expecting this and brains do these things.

LOL Very well said, motion is inside our brain, not in-camera ;-)

If the difference is small enough, you will see what you expect to see. Works for resolution, motion, color, anything!

There is something i will like to ask other opinions... Philip Bloom said the image produced by the Canon 1DC does feel for him superior. There is no doubt for me the Epic or F55 produce better image, but Im not sure what to think about the 1DC except the 2 could produce different but great image. Now I expect the 1DC to have more motion moire problem, compression noise and highlight clipping...

What do you guys are thinking? Im curious to know...

Looks nice. A bit contrasty which might be a tad problematic as the flat "log" like look is getting - or IS for that matter - quite established.

But still, s35, globall shutter, 4k, etc... for 4k is ground breaking. Keep it up BM! Lets just hope the camera will be software-vise up to spec:)

"Rolling shutter is also a real issue on the 1D C – quite severe in 4K – so the global shutter equipped Blackmagic Production Camera certainly has an advantage when it comes to shooting fast paced action or handheld sequences." --- http://www.eoshd.com/content/10179/the-canon-1d-c-review

So important is motion purity to me, the first question I ask about a camera is, Does it have global shutter? I have that luxury, I'm not in business anymore, just in it for art's sake. However, it does simplify shopping. Right now the number of cameras in the world that fully satisfy my purchase criteria is still: 0.

The BM4k has a global shutter, a real electronic global shutter, all the photosites are exposed at the same time instead of in a rolling manner, like on the 1DC or the F5.
