Second Generation DVX-100?

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

i doubt if this mystic machine is available that it will be released before Nab2004

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

Remember Flinstone, it has a rumoured PRICE TAG of $5000! :-[ I'd hate to see you wait that much longer and not being busy! - Sorry, None of my business. :-X

I'm sure the rumour is legit; it's inevitable that they come out with a sequel due to the enormous success of the DVX100. But if it is $5000, o u c h .

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

If it had 16x9 built in I would pay $10,000

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

I won't speculate on whether it's real or not at this point. But my questions is, how does a "digital squeeze" 16X9 work?

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

John, you are right. If I keep putting things off for the latest and greatest, I'll end up moth-balling too many good ideas, not to mention the loss contract$. Besides, as Zoomforce stated, rumors such as this, and at this stage, is mosltly destined to be NAB material. Well, I can't wait that long! That... and the $5000US (thats $6750CDN) kinda puts a damper on things. I seriously doubt it will be listed that high, but who knows what goes on into those greedy little corporate minds.

Zoomforce, you'd pay $10K for a native 16:9 DVX? Wow! I think I don't charge enough for my services! ;D At that price, I'd expect at least 1/2" CCDs, LANC control, hybrid LCD, and most importantly, whatever is needed to achieve shallow DoF in tight spots.

Unfortunatley, that is how it works. I doubt Panasonic could have predicted the overwhelming success of the DVX. With a release of the DVX2 they KNOW they can charge more.

Supply and Demand baby.

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

Yes but, what about the old saying: The more you buy the less it costs? Besides, if they sell it at the same price as the current DVX100, Panasonic would just kill the competition. Bye bye Sony PD150, Canon XL1, the shitty mistake that is the JVC Streamcorder... There would be no doubts as to which camera one has to choose... right? right??

I know, I know... What planet do I live on... ::)

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

Yes, I see your take and concur.

Supply and Demand is a tricky concept. In fact, it works both ways.

A product can be given away due to increase in demand. Take t.v's, stereos, phones... Everyone wants it, everyone is making it, everyone is selling it.

OR (in this case)

Only one company is offering it. Not a bunch of companies in competition. They can charge up the yin yang knowing the simple fact of "Where else are you going to go?"

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

Wow, I just noticed that the board automatically changed the word sh*tty to nutsty automatically! Interresting language filter. It's just that I felt sh*tty was a stronger qualifier in my attempt to describe what I thought about the worst cam in existence that is the JVC Streamcorder. A serious stain in the camcorder gene pool if you ask me! Rented it twice... the two biggest mistakes I've made in my videography life.

I know, I know!  The golden rule.  He who has the gold, makes the rules.  :'(

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

LOL :D

I read the [glow=red,2,300]Nutsy[/glow] comment and thought:

That's an interesting way to put it. LOL

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

lol.. you should do a little profanity test to see some of the creative little modifications I put in the Filter.

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

I have no info on this at all just an opinion...Before they release a 5K version of the dvx100 I think Panny needs to address a low cost HD version to ans JVC HD10 or whatever its is called. Imagine A DVX 100 with 24p and HD...I just fainted..it'll never happen.

Steve

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

Well the PRINCIPAL drawback to "low cost" HD right now is the lack of distributable media, and the lack of reasonable consumer HD devices to play them. Unless of course you only plan on blowing it to film or stream them in Landmark Theaters. Windows Media 9 HD media files remains your only viable option right now for HD.

But hey! Any body check out the HDV standard? No 24P! That really sucks! :-X (Hmmm! Did the language filter kick in?)

Re: Second Generation DVX-100?

I imagine the 'Digitally stretched 16:9' works in the same way most people would do 4:3 -> 16:9 conversion in post.

The image is probably captured on a 4:3 CCD, then simply stretched vertically with sufficient anti-aliasing.

Actually, 4:3 -> 16:9 conversion in post is done by adding a matted frame. Digital 16:9 in the camera is done by squeezing the 4:3 image (everyone looks tall and skinny). In post the image is stretched to the 16:9 format.
