This is a musical documentary/montage that I did in high school with a Canon XL1s (a few shots were actually done with an Ikegami HL-DV7AW, but the majority is from my Canon). I went to this location (Horseshoe Cove) over the course of a couple years, getting shots during various seasons. I put it together on Avid Xpress DV, and it won a finalist position in the Nature/Wildlife category of the 2005 Telly Awards.
Since then I haven't touched it much. The main motivation I had going into it was learning about framing, angles, and how to use my camera to get the images I wanted (I also taught myself Avid with this project). I made this such a long time ago that it never occurred to me to post it on this forum, until now. I have an HVX200 package on the way, and I've got some scripts to work on and positions on a few other films up at my college, so I've gotten really interested in these kinds of forums.
You guys are the experts, and the shots you see in this short are pretty accurate representations of the skill level I'm at right now. I'm not so egotistic that I'll say its perfect, but I do have confidence that what I made is good. What I'd really like is some feedback from the cinematographers and editors out there. What kinds of things did I do right? What did I do wrong? What can I improve on? Don't hesitate to say anything. If I didn't want to learn from my mistakes I would be working in a cubicle right now.
also, please forgive me but I'm not very knowledgeable on compression settings for the internet. I have it on youtube as well as a higher quality that I recently made and put onto my personal site.
