Hi all,
I just found this Forum and I found it very helpfull to get more insights in the ups and downs on VDSLR. About Myself: I am from Germany and 20 years old. In two weeks i will start travelling to West and South Africa and South-East Asia. For this purpose I am in search for a Photo and Video Hybrid Camera.
I found 4models which appealed to me:
2DSLR Canon 550D and Panasonic GH1
2Compacts Canon S95 and Olympus EPL1
My budget is about 800Euros but i would be happier to get away with 400euro if it is possible.
When it comes to Video my main Concern is horizontal Lines when filming fire at night. Since I do Fireshows and want to record Fireshows with the camera this would be a KO criterium. At the moment I am using a Panasonic NV-GS320 Camcorder which also has this problem. Her is a heavy example of what i mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG2CISgwnsw
When looking through samples of Camera night Footage i noticed that espeacially the Compact cams seem to have this problem. When it comes down to DSLR I found both extremes. Videos with heavy Lines and videos which despite no background lighting did really well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Tcmru8yktw
So does it depend mainly on lenses, body, lighting and can a compact camera do decent recordings of a Fireshow? Which type and model would you advise to me?
