Hey. This has no doubt been asked and answered multiple times, but I searched the forums and couldn't find anything.

Okay, don't shoot me but I want to know what is the optimum size, resolution, and format for a still image to be imported into an NLE at high def?

I'm adding elements to some still pix, to make the scene look different, and when I'm done I want to import those pix into After Effects and add weather effects, (snowfall), over the top of them. Then that "scene" is to be placed into the timeline of my movie. You get the picture.

So, how should I save my retouched photo in PS before taking it into AE, so that it will make a good background plate for the weather effects?

Thanks.

What are your NLE project settings? Match them. Probably either 1440x1080 or 1920x1080. Why not take a frame grab from your NLE and put it in photoshop to match it?

That all there is to it? Just match the project frame size?

Well, that was easy.

Thanks, Hangzhou.

Usually - unless you want to reframe your still or have it in motion, either by position or using a moving 3D camera - in which case you need more size. Same if you'll zoom in on it. I usually go a bit bigger to give me some leeway.

Most NLEs and After Effects have ways to export a single frame - that's often better than a screen grab, which will be reduced in size unless you're working at 100%.
