My understanding of this is that by itself it will not be a complete "record to hard drive" solution for the DVX, there will still need to be a control interface of some sort.

It is, however, very good news for future products such as removable in-camera hard drives replacing tape, in addition to enhanced performance for TIVO style devices and video capture stations.
