SD302 to 7D Mic Input

Hey folks needs some help, if possible. I need to take the XLR outs of the SD302 to the 1/8" Stereo Mic input on a Canon 7D. I want to split channels left and right rather than a mono input on the camera. Can anyone tell me what the Y-Cable wiring would look like?

I used 442 / Zoom h4n ( as a backup) from H4n output from mini jack to the 7D mini jack, you can control the level from the SD or h4n ....

I don't know how much you've read about the 7D audio circuitry, but most DPs I know will not bother feeding audio into the camera. They record with the on-board mic to use as a scratch track, and record their audio separately to a recorder (even the zoom H4) and then sync in post.

It is my understanding that the A/D converters and AGC circuit of the 7D result in unusable production audio.

Thanks for the 'heads up' on the 7D AGC. I'd been told it could be set to 'manual' - they assumed it was like the 5D. Unfortunately, I don't have my Zoom available right now. I'm working on a work-around solution to inject a 19khz sinewave on one channel and my audio signal on the other. Kind of a 'cludgey' solution - hopefully it works.

That'll override the AGC but wont help with the converters. But without a separate recorder, that's kinda what you're stuck with.

Yeah, I know. Thankfully this is just a talking heads interview. I understand it won't be ideal, but at least it will be a quiet environment and not a lot of dynamic range requirements. Thanks again

To be honest, it's not clear why a DP would be making a sound decision - it's not what they're trained in, it's not their role on set and, frequently, they will work against the interests of the production if allowed to get involved in sound. That is up to the producer and the Production Mixer. The Production Mixer doesn't line up shots and the DP doesn't deal with sound.
