SD302 / DVX100B Settings

Great! That's the Katz 20 system that I use for everyday work anyway. (Only at 24 Bit.)

Sorry, if I ask stupid questions. I'm new to video and so far still trying to discover the differences to audio recording without picture and photography.

Biggest difference so far: You have to get the darn mic out of the picture or make it invisible. :) And that costs quite a lot of money.

1. I felt a sudden urge to explain why I'm asking questiions :)

2. The settings you described are an implementation of a system that is also known as K-20 by Bob Katz.

Oleg,

Sorry if you felt as if this was a waste of time. I found it really useful to have this all in one spot and pretty well described. So, thank you very much for taking your time. I appreciate it and I am sure others do as well.

And, since there is no commentary about this one, I suspect that everyone agrees with your settings.

Thanks again and all my best.

I hope that you had a good day of atonement and reconciliation.

much easier is while you are in menu mode on the mixer ( after you attenuated the signal) is to push the ton button and get +20 dbu tone and place the camera directly on the last red ( 0dbfs ) WHAT MEAN - That if you are +20 dbu on the mixer , you are 0dbfs on the camera - very simple
ok - did you get it or i have to waist my time again:-)

I finally got my SD302. Now, when I'm using this procedure as Oleg described, there is a weird phenomenon: While the 302 output level stays rock steady (monitored with fireface800), my DVX100B's levels ramp up. Or in other words: when I'm recording a constant 1kHz tone, it gets one to two bars (on the DVX display) louder over time. (ALC off, of course.) Isn't that weird?

thats acommon problem with dvx b - it take time for worm up - - what you expect from semi profesional camera ?
after few minutes , it would relex - i hope for you

It doesn't really warm up. This phenomenon is repeatable over and over again - even if the camera was on for half an hour. All it needs is a bit of silence in between. It feels as if a limiter kicks in at first and then very slowly releases more and more. Strange...

Well, luckily I'm not recording constant 1kHz tones very often. :)

But if matching pics and sound wasn't such a pain in the butt afterwards, I'd prefer recording to an external 24 Bit recorder.

the limitter kicks at - 6 dbfs , dont really think , it have something with , more probably a to d converter , go mad - you can live with
