Sd Viewing In Hd Tv

My cousin currently purchased an HD television. And he allowed me to view some of my dvx 100 footage. I was depressed to see it looked a little blocky and pixilated. My film teacher said that happens with SD footage viewed on HD. Is this because of my cousins dvd player which isnt an HD dvd player. Or do i have uprez to hd to get a good picture like i see on my standard television. Any advice would be appreciated

I think it varies a lot from TV to TV. On my HDTV (57"), DVX stuff looks better then some cable channels and is definitely watchable. Make sure you have what ever TV and DVD combo you are using set up right.

Also remember, a TV uprezzing SD to HD footage has a lot of pixels to stretch across. You are asking a lot from low res NTSC SD video.

But what if you shoot with the anamorphic adaptor. Which means its not stretching it as much as 4X3 footage. Also the dvx film BROKEN looks pretty good in a lot of hdtvs i have seen. Does it have something to do with the DVD authoring? Because i burn it straight out of my computer. Am i doing something wrong?

thanks for everything

Could be. My DVX footage looks pretty good on my 42 inch plasma. HVX footage of course looks better. I have been using instant HD on ppro with good results but now I am using FCP and compressor for the upres and the result is even better, though I am not sure exactly which component is making the greatest difference.

what is your method for burning to dvd? and what is your process for uprezing on final cut pro

thanks
