Yeah, I shot IMX on a telenovela (don't ask- though if you do, I got some stories...) '02-'03.Had to be the 2000's. IMX was introduced around 2001 and SR was like 2003. MPEG IMX was originally designed as a sort of archival/editing/intermediary format, BUT they actually produced a camera that shot on IMX tape.

Pretty nice picture for Sony at the time, considering it was 60i and yeah, the "soap opera look".
Best part was getting to DP/shoot 2nd unit scenes with talent single cam film style on our own locations, while the rest of the crew shot bigger scenes multi-cam through the switcher and truck.
And I too still have 3 P2 cards.
But the SD Express sounds insane!
I still have an SDX900! sort of erie and nostalgic look now. Shot some stuff a couple months ago with it. will try to take it out again soon. That novella was the only time I encountered IMX, and it/they were provided by the production company.
But you are forgetting one SD yet digital bridge between Beta and HD- DVCPRO 25 and 50, especially the beautiful Ikie DVCPRO 50.
I used the Panny SDX900 a bunch, and the Ikie a couple of times, and it was, of course, gorgeous (though the SDX was no slouch).
Sorry for the detour down nostalgia lane here, as we discuss the media of the future (or of the month, haha!).
The only constant is change...

Considering the cost of SD cards capable of the 400mbps from the GH5 and EVA1 I'm not going to hold my breath that these will be at a realistic price point anytime soon. Hopefully they at least drive down the cost of the V60 and V90 cards where those become the bottom feeder cards you can pick up at a drug store.
Yes, the real bottle necks are the cost of memory. And (don't forget) the cost and capacity limits of hard disk drives. After all, no one expects to actually edit off of their SD card. Hard disk capacity is improving at a glacial pace. Capacity used to double every two years. Now it's more like a 20% increase. Something has to change with these two things for a true RAW revolution.
Depending on your choice of camera, you may never use these cards. I'd bet Sony will never use these on their higher end cameras. Think FS7 and up. Same with RED and Arri. Media is a cash cow for these companies with their proprietary media and they're not likely to use something so generic.
Except that the whole industry is heading towards a situation where there will be tiny fraction using Arri/Varicam and the rest will fully adopt DSLR-like cameras..budget will simply not allow fussing with sonyFS7 and likes (mid range cameras that demand extra hands to shlepp-operate-handle yet not provide TOP quality)...This nich will dissapear quietly when people least expect it...And who ever ends up buying FS7 mark 3/4 will end up like digi betacam buyer around 2009-2011...
So Sony,Pany and Red might not implement new standard becase they will not make nor sell equipment that they might use it on! But the standard might live in DSLR RAW world!
And then? Once your body does give up, then what? Retire in 58? With all this millions you made till that point?
Just curious....
Anyway, my note about digi beta was as a malinvenstment illustration: At the time lets say 2007-2011 there were people who just bought new digibeta for 30K, yet most of the jobs were done on DVXs and such, that costed fraction of it (and had superior IQ).
No, I don't belive in word of sony nor pany nor others.... I don't think we, pros, should increase our biz opportunities and income by going and buying latest sony FSX MArk XV in 2019, in a times when any shmuck with good instagram/yt/patreon page following makes as much or more as pros do...and yes, they all use smartphones and webcams...
