I am producing a short film to be shown on a DVD 4.3 in SD.
What format should I shoot in for best result?
And what is my workflow in FCP.

I want the best result possible for the 4.3 aspect ratio on SD DVD to be viewed on a TV.

and also in a similar vein, what are the answers to all the above questions if my final product is BD at 720p?

thanks ...

there really isnt any mojo to it.

your SD DVD, is 4:3. is that 4:3 full screen or 4:3 letterbox?

if its the latter just edit in native 720p then just tell dvdspro to letterbox it. if its the former youre going to have to compose your shots with 4:3 in mind and do a pan and scan thing on your sd timeline...

Barry has reported that the HVX200 produced its best NTSC images when shooting DVCPro50 codec over downconverting HD to NTSC. If you are positive that you will never need that material in HD, you could shoot DVCPro50. I assume that his recommendation also applies to the 170?

shooting in DV25 on the 170 sucks way more than normal. I'm not sure if it's just me and seeing the direct difference between shooting HD one day and then having to drop to SD the next day for a shoot but I was very disappointed in the quality of what I saw. I have not shot anything in DVCPro50 yet but maybe there is a saving grace in there. My suggestion shoot HD and down convert and crop to 4:3 in post, just gaff off a 4:3 reference on your monitor so you don't screw up on framing your subjects haha.
