SD Card?

SD is the type of card you want !
All SD cards are the same they just come in bigger sizes.
You only need a very small capacity card say 16 meg and up, 128 meg is quite common.

Yeah, the cheapest/smallest will be fine. The camera only utilizes very, very, very little space, so no need to spend more to get a bigger card.

Although in the manual it requires at least 8 meg's minimum for the SD card. Which is easy and cheap to get more anyways. They probably dont make 8 meg SD cards that often anymore anyways.

maybe a bigger newb question, but what is the SD card used for. Now I use one for my Digi cam, but for the HVX, what can I do with it?

You can store scene files and I believe still pictures.... So say your on a movie shoot for a week or two.... but then something happens causing you to have to hold off on shooting for a while..... you can save the settings of your camera to a SD Card.... and then when you're able to go back to shoot you can pop that in and all your settings come right back.

Too bad you can't save WB info on there as well. Now that would be really cool if that could happen.

No still pictures on the SD card. It stores scene files, user files, and metadata files.

How would storing white balance info be valuable? I've heard someone else ask for that too, but I don't get it... white balance settings are specific to the current lighting conditions, so if the lighting conditions change, you need to update/change your white balance. If you're trying to recreate a shot, you'd have to be certain to use exactly the same kind of lights in the same basic arrangement and balance before a saved white balance would have any usefulness. Why wouldn't you want to just take a new white balance under the current conditions, to know for sure you've got it right?

Under what circumstances would saving a white balance setting be helpful? Would you be thinking about for matching cameras or something?

At certain locations where the light doesn't change it would be good. It would be nice to have more that two saved custom WBs in the camera. There really are 4 WB settings. But only the ones you do can be adjusted. Also some WBs give a very interesting look depending on what they were calibrated to. I remember hearing the DP from "Novermber" talk about how she didn't want to turn off the DVX she was working with because of how it looked when she WB the camera to a street light that should could get to again for some reason.

Isn't it helpful that you can save two WB settings already in the A and B positions. It is to me and if I was able to save more I would WB to a bunch of different stuff. Then I could have those on file and test them out without having to do another WB.

It also might be helpful in matching cameras.
