SD card recovery

Hi,
Do any of you know of a good / reasonable SD card recovery service? Have a
friend and the SD card is no longer recognized as a device. I know of services
where they extract the memory chip and insert it into new reader
electronics.
The costs vary wildly .. from $99 to over 1k.

If you know of a good service, we'd much appreciate it.

PC Inspector File Recovery worked for me. Think its freeware as well. If your actual files are damaged though it won't help. Works when your SD file system is damaged.
