SD Card Paradigm

I always try to have redundancy. When my primary camera was a Canon XH-A1 retrofitted with a CF recorder, I still went to tape *and* CF whenever possible. So wrt the DVX200....

I have been using SIMUL mode recording to two identical (usually 64Gb) cards. I keep the data on the cards until it has been copied to at least two other places. I shoot 1080P/59.94 50Mbps most of the time (for now).

I'm toying with changing my paradigm by putting a larger card (256Gb) in slot two and just keeping it in as the "backup" until it fills, then deleting the oldest files.

Thoughts?

Nothing wrong with that method - as long as you have a solid verification step in there somewhere too.

Sure, the majority of the time we never need those redundant backups.... But we still never delete them until we know for sure we've got it safe and sound somewhere else.

So in this configuration you need to have a step wherein you make certain that your main media has been offloaded and VERIFIED to live happily in at least two places.

It seems that the other dual-64's method might be more conducive to a continuous shooting workflow, but that depends on exactly how you implement this.

Also, it will take a "new" effort in mental focus to make CERTAIN that the old files you're deleting are, in fact, the exact files that have already been secured elsewhere.
This is an area that seems more open to human error than an "all or nothing" whole card approach.
