SD Card Issues When Updating P2 Firmware for E Series Card

I've searched the forums for a similar issue to what I'm experiencing but couldn't find anything. I apologize in advance if this has been covered.

I'm currently attempting to update the firmware on my AG-HVX200 to support a new 32 gig E-Series P2 card.

I've formatted the card in the 2 gig SD card (not SDHC) in the camera.

I have downloaded the firmware file and copied it over to the card. When I put the card in the camera and go to Operation, the Update option is not available.

I've tried this multiple times to no avail. The card reader is not malfunctioning as the camera does recognize the SD card. It just isn't picking up on the firmware. Am I missing something here? Am I supposed to do anything after downloading from the net? I've tried uncompressing the file as well, but nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Did you copy the firmware into the proper directory? It has to go to private/meigroup/something-something-something/FW.
 
Hmmm...I'm guessing no seeing as I'm not entirely sure what you mean. I simply downloaded the file, it appeared on my desktop as a zipped folder, and I copied that entire folder on to the formatted SD card. When that didn't work, I tried again with an extracted version of the file. Still didn't work.

Should I have a pre-set file structure on the SD card to copy the firmware into?
 
Save some scene files on your SD card, and the camera will create all the proper directories except the lowest-level one. You have to go into the deepest directory and create an FW directory (FW for FirmWare).

Copy the firmware file into that FW directory, and the "update" should now see it.

I too am having the same problems and I "downloaded" (which means I copied and pasted) some scene files to the SD card and it still has not recognized the SD card so that I can update. BTW I am doing this update to try to solve the problem of "DEVICE DISCONNECT" with my camera to the Mac. It suddenly decided to stop recognizing my HPX170, therefore I cannot Log and Transfer any files to the hard drive. I guess after answering my question about updating, can you tell me if this will solve the transfer problem, or do I need to go another direction?
 
Well after many attempts to right the problem, I simply decided to use the USB port rather than the firewire port. I don't know which is faster (or better) to use but all I know is now I can log and transfer. All I had to do was change the device settings to USB and now I am editing. Don't understand, but as long as the work is getting done - then I am happy.
 
Format the SD card, then save a scene file from your camera to the SD card. That'll create the proper directory structure. Then add an "FW" directory at the deepest level, and copy the firmware into that FW directory.

As for your firewire port not being recognized -- firmware won't do anything about that. It's more likely that you may have blown your firewire port. Make sure your firewire port is working. Can you capture footage off the 170 in DV mode through firewire?
 
Yes, I can capture in DV mode, therefore this 1394 port is working. This makes me scratch my head even more becuase I thought that was the problem. I wonder if the problems are in my Mac. This thing is brand new - LOADED to the gills, but have been having a lot of hiccups with it. Can you think of what else could be the problem?

Is your 1394 port in the camera menu set to "1394 Device" and not "1394 Host" when you're attempting log and transfer to FCP? It must be correct if you are capturing fine, but are you sure it didn't get changed before you attempted log and transfer?
