SD card formatting & file renaming issues

So, after I transferred all videos to my computer, I would format or delete the SD card using the GH1. When recording starts, it would name the files starting at 0001 again, creating new files whose names are identical to the previous batch now residing on my conputer.

Is there a way to make the empty card continue with the numerical sequence in file naming?

No, you can't start other than at the beginning of the number sequence.

However, I would recommend not just copying the video files off the card. Create a date-named folder (maybe in a "GH1" parent folder) and drag the whole card's folders into that. That will take up a tiny bit of extra space, but it means that should you ever wish to do so, you can do the reverse and the GH1 will then correctly interpret the file and folder structure. And of course there is now no ambiguity in the folder/file names, and you've got at least some idea of the contents of the folder via the dated name.

I now do a short batch rename infront of the original file names after i dump onto my hd. eg...0001.mts becomes Jill_0001.mts. Have also set up a pretty organised folder structure template too for new projects so I just dump my raws into it.

Before that I used to just dump now, come back and search later. It pays to do it properly the first time..ha

The failure of the GH1 to remember the last used number for storing pics & vids is a well-known shortcoming of the camera's firmware. Perhaps it will get fixed in some future update.
