SCRUBBING Timline with audio???

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to Vegas actually!

I think it's a great program but the lack audio during the scrubbing timeline process really gets to me! I know there is the waveform audio signals, but I like to hear the audio cue to match up visual cues during editing for fast-paced "ON THE BEAT" videos. I'm used to Premiere's audio scrubbing interface.

Maybe I'm missing something in the settings but can anyone verify that there is NO audio during scrubbing or do I have to turn it on somewhere within the settings?

Also, is there a setting for clipping tool (to add the letterbox effect) in Vegas and where is it? Is there a cropping tool?

Please reply! Thanks :)

Re: SCRUBBING Timline with audio???

The standard "J/K/L" scrubbing keys (J = Reverse, K = Stop/Pause, L = Forward) keys work with Vegas 4 and have audio.

The clipping tool you are looking for is Pan/Crop. Right click the video file in the timeline you would like to modify and choose "Video Event Pan/Crop."

Re: SCRUBBING Timline with audio???

When I use JKL in Vegas, it is basically a "Play function". Rewing play, stop, and fast forward play at different speeds.

What I need is to hear the sound frame by frame while having control to stop at each frame to hear the sound. I don't want to just play it because that's the same as just clicking play in Vegas.

Any other tips?

Thanks,

Norm

yeah.. I hear audio.. at all speeds as well.

Re: SCRUBBING Timline with audio???

Ah i see.

Not sure if you tried, but if you hold K and tap L, it will start at a very slow speed (like turning the jog control slightly.) Cause if you just press J or L, it will play at 100% speed. Sorry I could not be of much help.

Re: SCRUBBING Timline with audio???

If you hold down the control key when no event is selected, your cursor should turn into a little speaker. You can then left click you mouse and scroll through the timeline to scrub audio.

That said, i find the best way to do it is with a Contour Shuttle pro.

Re: SCRUBBING Timline with audio???

I think maybe he's referring to being able to drag the playhead around the timeline and getting audio while doing so. This is a useful feature in many other NLEs that I miss in Vegas. I've asked Sonic Foundry (now Sony) about it and as far as I know it is not yet a feature.

Re: SCRUBBING Timline with audio???

The shutttle pro is my solution to this problem, this thing rocks with vegas and you can scrub just like with a deck. Very responsive and you can go frame by frame if you wan't.

hope this helps,

And you get audio feedback too? I think it's time to get one of these!
