Scrolling Title

I am new to video editing in general, but what I'm trying to do has me stumped, simple though it may be. I am trying to have a title scroll across the screen from right to left. I'm using very large text that takes up almost the entire screen. I enter in the entire text and then use track motion, setting the keyframes so that the title is off the screen to the right and then scrolls off the screen to the left. The problem is, when it starts to scroll across the screen, only 2 letters and part of a third are actually seen. It's like it will only fit a certain amount of characters into the scrolling portion. How can I make it so that the entire word is seen instead of a small portion???

Re: Scrolling Title

You should be seeing what is in the frame via the pan and crop window. You are using Pan and Crop, yes?

Re: Scrolling Title

I believe that text positioning needs to be adjusted in the text properties.  For Track motion and Event Pan/Crop, you can only adjust whatever is within the screen borders.

Try adjusting the position of the text in the text properties.  It should do what you want :)

Re: Scrolling Title

Actually, with pan/crop, you can move all over the picture. As long as you have all the text you need on your title card, you can crop down so that only a few letters are visible and then keyframe the movement so that it pans along the rest of the letters in the title.

If you use track motion, you can move a box around on the screen, but only the part of the picture that's within the cropping.

There are also credit crawl presets in the Media Generators menu.

Re: Scrolling Title

Thanks. I guess that's the problem. The full width of the title would be about 3 screens long when it's all laid out. I guess I will have to split the word up and do it in three different passes and string them together.

Re: Scrolling Title

LOL

You shouldnt have to split it up.

Just create a seeparate Video Track.

Then, right click in the Tract and select Insert Text Media.

Type whatever crazy ass long words you want.

Then, select Pan and Crop and do it all from there.

Re: Scrolling Title

If I understand what you're saying, one would use pan/crop to crop down how many words/letters are visible in the frame (in essence "zooming in" on the letters you want), and adjusting the "Center" properties to move across the titles?

If so, wouldn't there be image degredation by zooming in on the title so much so there are only a few letters visible in the frame at a time (which seems to be the text size that hYpnochronic wanted)?  The longer the titles, the smaller you would have to make the text (so this it all fit in the frame before using pan/crop), so the longer the titles, the more degraded the image would become to fill the frame with only 2-3 letters.

Wouldn't it be easier to do this in the text properties itself?  You have full control over the native font size of the titles, and you can adjust the positioning of the text in the frame just as easily (if not faster) in the "Placement" tab, but there will be no text cutoff just because the entire title won't fit in the frame at the font size you desire.

I may be totally missing something here, hopefully someone can point it out.

Re: Scrolling Title

You are right and I did not consider the BLUR (pixelation) caused by zooming.

Where are you talking about PROPERTY settings? The Scaling option? I'm trying to figure it out, but it is getting CROPPED and it is LOSING REZ.

Obviously another option is Photoshop for resolution.

Re: Scrolling Title

You mean for property settings for the text?

When you create a new generated media on the timeline, the propery box opens up so that you can customize it to your liking. In the case of generated text, this property box allows you to change the text, font size, etc. There are multiple tabbed areas that have different properties you can change. To make the titles move from left to right for instance, you could keyframe the position of the text by way of the "Placement" tab.

PS: I just found out by mistake that you can even keyframe the value of the text! That's just crazy.

Re: Scrolling Title

The value of the text? Please explain!

I am where you are describing but if I make the text the size that we are referring to it literally CROPS it.

1. How do we have an insane long word and still maintain control for pan and crop

while...

2. Having the text fill the screen and not lose rez?

Re: Scrolling Title

OK, so everytime I open my mouth I sound like a bigger idiot, but when I open any type of text generator, there are NO keyframe options available. Watching the video that was posted earlier makes perfect sense, but I don't have that option becoz there is no keyframable area. Did I manage to make it disappear somehow? That's why I was using track motion becoz I didn't see any other way to make any movement. I'm sure it's something simple, but I'm to the point where frustration has taken over and I can't even make myself keep looking.

Re: Scrolling Title

There's no keyframe timeline at the bottom of the text editor box?

Try making the box bigger. It may be hidden.

Re: Scrolling Title

LOL

You know I used to this all of the time! It is there...

You have to pull it up. Place your cursor just over the TABS (Trimmer, Explorer, etc) Suddenly it'll turn into the Double Arrow icon. Pull it up!

Re: Scrolling Title

HAHAHA. DURP!

Ok no more stupid questions for a while ( I hope).

THANKS!
