Script Fest?

When I suggested it in the other thread, I imagined it would work like this. Write an original short screenplay based on (theme / genre) within the period alotted. Submit it to DVXUser in PDF format by the deadline for hosting.

As with the DVXUser Film Festivals, eligible members would then vote on their favorite screenplay. The eliminated scripts would revert back to the authors, who would be free to use them in whatever way they wished.

The winning entry would be produced by DVXUser producers, director, DP, composer and the below-the-liners. How these people would be chosen is the biggest question. It could be through polling of nominees, submission of resumes and reels et-cetera.

The finished product would become the property of DVXUser. Naturally, the writer would receive credit. The physical production would be underwritten by DVXUser sponsors.

In the interest of time and momentum, I'd suggest that screenplays not exceed six pages. This would translate into an eventual short subject that could be the main attraction among other DVXUser Festival shorts on DVDs and so on.

At best, it would show writers what it is like to pitch a virtual studio (one with the ability to greenlight a project) on an original work and then see it go into production. At worst, you've got another contest you could run on DVXUser once a year or more if there is an interest.

I would be interested because I can always find the time to write, but rarely have the time from paying jobs to write and execute my own projects from concept to screen.

I agree with the sentiments expressed above. I don't mind a 6-page limit if there is a good chance of getting the film made. But I still think it needs to be completely different from the Film Fests.

Why do you keep saying that? We've all agreed on that about a hundred posts ago.

I know the air is thinner in Coarsegold, but c'mon!

By the way, my grandmother lives in Coarsegold, so I don't want you to think I've got a thing against Coarsegold. It's okay, if you don't mind having one of the most beautiful places on the planet as a next-door neighbor.

Sorry, that last post was written when I misinterpreted some things. I decided to just leave it. And don't worry, you can make fun of Coarsegold all you want, but you're right it is very beautiful.

I spent my summers in Yosemite all through the 70s and 80s. Coarsegold was a good place to shop before going into the valley (and getting carsick) on the South entrance road.

Ah, very cool. Yosemite is a very beautiful place. I don't go often enough. It is nice to be away from the city, yet within driving distance if need be.

Have at it! Look forward to readin' everyone's material. Course you won't see ME in it. I think some of our writers will turn out some good stuff, though.

Wonder how many people would submit to this. A lot I suppose. Need to take this into account.

Why even enter when Pest will "take us all on!!!"

I hope BrianLuce would consider entering...
...then again...
I have a feeling his scripts are more than just a little professional.

On second thought... Please, please don't enter, Brian. I'll give you a snickerdoodle :) .
