Screwed up

not 100% DVX related but would be something relevant to budding film makers etc.. don't be stupid like me.. Last month I was editing a friend's wedding video and finished it, outputted to DVD and passed it to him. He came back with request to do some changes, total of 10 hours of work. I couldn't get it done cos I started a different full time job which was mighty busy until now. so anyways I got back to work today on the project and guess what? I can't find my FCP project file for it, despite backing up already. Somehow I must have either missed the main one or saved another file over it. In any case, I can't make anymore changes cos Id already outputted it to QT format..

Crap...

gota go break the news.. I hate this.. wasn't keen on the changes cos the amount paid wasn't going to be good and they didn't appreciate the amount of changes (10 hours for me now with the new job is not something I can take away from my family).

Lesson Learnt:

1) Be neat and be organised with your files
2) Be clear on your expectations and manage it with your clients. I did it more of a favour for a friend but their expectations was more than what I thought and demanded more than I thought was fair output for my work and returns..

Hey borg, don't beat yourself up about this, and definitely don't call yourself stupid - people make mistakes. So you didn't back it up properly, it's happened to the best of us. Like you said anyway, their expectations were too high. The same thing has happened to me in different situations; the customer wants more changes after they've paid. That's not fair.

Is there anything you can pull off the dvd, edit differently and maintain MPEG-2? What types of changes do they want done?

Thanks for the tips and words of encouragement. I have all the raw files and DV PAL QT files all there so if I wanted to make the changes it is possible. its just ALOT of work to redo it. Anyways, I've spoken to them and though they're obviously not happy about it, they can't really complain considering the person who edited it in the first place did a EXTREMELY lousy job. Anyways I'll finish whatever is needed and that'll be the end of of my 'career' in wedding video editing. I don't like the fact that you artistic choices can be overruled cos the clients wants a particular section to be added and dilute the flow of the wedding vid (they are the clients I know but still...)
