screw this

This may seem like a stupid forum question, but it's hard to describe with words so I've attached a visual.photo.jpg

Anyway, I bought a used gini rig from a friend, but it didn't come with the screw to mount the rig the bottom of a camera. It is so hard to describe WHICH screw I need I thought I'd just upload a pic so you can see the mount on the rig plate. It's one of these weird proprietary screws that goes up through the bottom of the rig plate, through, and then into the 1/4 20 threads on cam.

What is this called and where do I buy it? Does anyone sell them in Houston? It would also be nice to get more of those little tiny screws that go into the secondary/very small hole on the cam bottom to keep it from pivoting (like the ones on a tripod plate). Same question. . .what is that called and where do I find it? I emailed gini rig and they decided not to get back to me ever.

I get them off Ebay, look for "Screws for quick release plates". The other screw you need to get measurement and go to a hardware store. Probably have to modify something close. It may be easier to just contact the maker of Gini.

Happened to me too. Mine was a Jib that I bought and it did not come with a mounting screw. lol

Very close to that BUT the "base" (large flat part where screwdriver goes) should be much bigger, about size of a nickel. Fits in the large recessed holes in my pic.

gini has declined to answer my last email to them about the issue.

Technically it's called a "captive screw", but more readily recognized as a "tripod screw" in camera circles. Unless you have specialty camera shops in you're area, you'll probably have better luck buying online.

The item Prendi linked to is what you want. The head doesn't need to be as large as the inset, just small enough to fit within it.

Any 1/4"-20 tripod screw should meet your needs. You'll just need to measure the thickness of the Gini plate to make sure the screw is long enough to reach the camera.

I guess i was thinking larger screw head= more stability? After all that tiny piece of metal is all thats stopping your cam from making out with the floor

Hi, Josh, I see that Gini Rig's live chat is temporarily off the air.

Once it is back if they are not responsive, please let us know.

I steer clear of suppliers who won't take the time to help when I need service.
