Hey guys, here are some grabs of a 20 minute film I made this summer with my DVX100a. The film is called Tolerance, and it's a dark comedy action-thriller about a 36 year old recluse who tells the story of how he met his two best friends.

Spent a lot of time on lighting (especially for the night scenes) so I would greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions you may have. Thanks a lot!

really like grabs 2 and 7. The 2nd to last grab though looks out of place a lil compared to the rest of the night grabs. Good job, looking forward to seeing the finished product.

2nd grab is the best, more detail in it... th eothers are way too dark... i feel you should always see some detail even in supposed "pitch black" type shots...
but having siad that the actors were lit very well and moody... just needed to kick the background lighting up a few notches.
do you have any clips to show off?
also was that post work on clip 2... or just blue gets?

I lit every night scene with 2 open faced 600w tungsten lights, a 200 watt flood, and a 1000w home depot work light. Most of the time, I had them gelled 1/2 CTB. Because of my shortage of money (and therefore, lights), I really couldn't light the background that well so I focused a lot on lighting the subjects.

The scene with the 2nd grab was shot with a blue filter (80A) with lights gelled 1/4 CTB. Very little post work done to it - some minor desaturation, level tweaking (crushing the blacks), and some CC to make it more look more like moonlight.

i like the darkness.

really clean too , Dynamic noise reducer????

ACtually im kinds curious how you got them so clean....

I usually hate crystal clear footage, but in the deep blacks it looks good.

x2mag - could you tell me what a dynamic noise reducer is? I've never heard that term before. To make the shots clean, all I really did was use enough light, direct it in the right places, set the DVX on 0db (no gain), and slightly manipulate the levels as to make the blacks blacker.
