Hey guys! I shot all of this with a $700 Sony TRV-70 and composited it in the consumer version of Vegas, which is Vegas Moviestudio 4.0. It was just me and my friends strolling around Newark, NJ. We were checking out the location Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg used for the movie War of the Worlds. These shots weren't planned. Just basically point and shoot. And there is also no lighting too, so some things may be too black, but then you know why. Please tell me what you think. Thanks!

I can just picture someone sliding over the back trunk of that car running from the cops or something. Lol!

eh, don't look that bad for a TRV. The contrast may be alittle too rich for me but overall your CC is not too shabby! Now was the CC done within Vegas or did you used magic bullet?

I don't know how to post videos. I don't have a website of my own to do that. Also, this video isn't a good example of good motion because like I said, i was strolling around, so therefore, it is all bouncy and stuff. But uh, when I shoot some stuff, I can post it. But just let me know how to do it so I can do it in the future.

For the rest, please critique my grabs. I really need some opinions. So many people has seen them but just one person has said what they think about it. I would highly appreciate it. Thanks

ABOUT YOUT SCREEN GRABS:
I am totally and all about the first three images. I love the crushed blacks, and the green/blue tint. I love the depth of focus in the first image.

I also prefer the 1st try at color correction of the car. The greener look works for me much more. I think its because ther eis so much folliage around, the green just works better.
 
I am going to shoot a little test this Saturday with my friend. I will def. post videos then alright? I want you guys to critique those too. I will do two tests. I will do one with progressive scan, and the other with a low shutter. Then I want you guys to tell me which one is more film like alright? Thanks for your suggestions. I will do my best. Progressive scan with a TRV-70, I have one of those and I have never seen a progressive scan mode. Or maybe you are going to export the movie with prog. scan? Please enlighten me.
 
You click on FN, and then go to Page 3, and then on the bottom right, there is a button. Press it to get progressive scan mode. You can't have widescreen on though.

I love the look of the grabs. Especially the one with the greener tones to it. And I forgot, there is a progressive scan mode, sorry, I don't know what I was thinking. I use my Trv-70 for everything. That is all I have, other than a Panasonic PVDV-53, I plan on getting a DVX100A soon, but the trv70 is all I have to work with right now. Does the progressive mode help to make your shots look any better. I know that you cannot use any slow shutter effects so that is why I have never used it. I usually like to shoot all of my stuff in slow shutter effect level 1 to give it that softer look. I would like to know more about the progressive mode on it, what are the benefits from that mode. I have not been able to do any tests because all my tapes are for my short "Insurance Fraud". Anyways, I'll be waiting to hear what you have to say.
 
The progressive mode fits more in the screen. This camera has a true widescreen on it. It actually captures more image on the sides. Now as for the look of it, I am testing that out right now. From other tests, I've found that the slow shutter set to level 1 looks more cinematic than the Progressive Mode, but I am doing another test to verify it. The Progressive Mode records in 30p so it is the closest we're gonna get to 24p. It all depends on the look you want. I am going to post the tests up. I shot a mini shoot out on Saturday. I shot each shot two times, one with Progressive and the other with the slow shutter set on level 1.

Man, I want to get the DVX-100A so bad too! I just don't have the money for it. I just wish I can pay it monthly. I would be able to pay like $50 a month or something like that you know? Man, this sucks. It would be sooo awesome if I shot this movie in DVX-100A. It would look so amazing. Man, it's like my dream to have one of them. Whenever I see it, I shiver. I get depressed because I don't have it. This isn't like a PS2 that I wanted so bad and now I never touch it. It's the real thing man. This is what I am dreaming to get. Of course they are always going to be advancing and by the time I get it, they are going to have a better one, but man, I really want it so bad. I just have to pray to God.
 
Talk to mom and dad. No joke.. I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for my parents.
Perhaps they could finance the deal for a year or two while you pay it off.

Talk to a lender (a.k.a. - parents) You'll have to borrow money eventually to get a house and you'll
need a solid credit history, so get started today! Borrow money for a camera! Good luck. :thumbsup:
 
I did not know that my this camera shot in true widescreen, sweet. Thanks for the info on my cam. Yeah, I want the dvx100a pretty bad but I tell myself if I don't have any ideas for any shorts, then I don't need it until I move out of my parents house in a year. But guess what, I have ideas for a short which means that I need one pretty soon. And as for the whole dealing with the parents thing, believe me it works, I just got a loan for Final Cut Studio. I am actually going to get co-signed for a loan by my mom(hopefully) for the DVX100a. So try and see what happens with that, either that or you could always go to some loan company that charges a high interest rate, regardless of your past credit history. I definitely want to see those shots and hear more about our camera's if possible. It's always nice to hear something new about something that you have had for a while.

Btw, It would be cool with some of that funky greenish color correction you did to the car. Hope Im not too demanding, now. :thumbsup:
 
questionman17, i got ur pm. Looks like you made the trv70 proud. I started with a trv70, bought it for 900 bucks, fell in love with it.. made a couple of flicks. until I saw the dvx! I went crazy, had dreams of owning it. Then finally I got serious, and applied for a credit card, the one that offers introductory 6 months 0% APR. I had no idea how I was gonna pay for it.... I was so afraid of going into debt. So I work my ass off for 4 months. Paid it off early. And it is worth it, there is a big jump from a one-chip to a dvx100a. Now I'm just starting to get some work coming in. So its all good, my next camera hopefully is the HDX200 but im happy with my dvx so far. So that's my story. If you have a job, you can get it. Hope that helps.
 
I'll throw in some different colors in there. I'll do some different moods in the comparison video. But it won't be till later because I have a sweet 16 birthday party i need to edit, and a wedding I need to do that I just filmed today. So, it won't be a while. Sorry it can't be any faster. I really want to see it myself.
