FWIW if anyones interested

Frame grabs from a little self promotion project I did for my film company.
Shot with AF102, basic lighting , Nikkor 60 macro and default camera settings.

Before shot... straight from the camera native AVCHD
After shot a simple 30 second grade in Premiere using Levels and Screen

I still love this little camera!

Fantastic grabs, love the detail and the sharpness (as much as I can tell from such downsized grabs). Really beautiful composition and colors as well. It still amazes me the great images that can be pulled out of this camera.

Looks really nice- that lens looks great, Shooter!

Can you describe your "basic" lighting? Something like 4x4 overhead and slightly behind?
What's your BG and what's blowing it out?
Lastly, what's for lunch? Sardines, jam and pasta???

vegemite

Basic lighting - 4x4 diff frame and a small fresnel to pick out the BG.

BG is just objects placed for shape and shadow eg glass jars , bowls etc.

Its the shallow DOF that make that work in this instance.

Vegemite - well spotted ed!

You couldn't come at better time with those sort of examples. How far were the lens from the subject?? Seems you have to get pretty close rather than the micro 105 VR. Are the lens the AF-s or the AF. Just need you honest opinion for argument sake filming ants.

Not sure that I am qualified or able to offer any advice on filming "ants" due to no experience in that field.

The objects I filmed are reasonably identifiable and therefore a known scale.

The Nikkor 60 macro will min focus to about .6 of a foot.

Try and interpret from there, where an "ant" may fit in the scale of things and what you desire.

It is motion for web base, email and direct show to clients via smartphone , pad, etc.

I will post up a link soon to part of a movie as per the frame grabs.

I have a bunch of glass objects and panes of ripple glass etc... that I use (but rarely) for a bit of visual weirdness like this.

I also have all sorts of objects that I frequently use for shadows, shapes and reflections ....in the DOF magic zones.
