Hey guys! I finally got my own DVX-100A and I've only had it for like three days. I haven't read everything on the manual or the DVX Book yet. I am getting to it though. The ones in the garage with that kid running around was unplanned. I just took my DVX and shot some things as I visited the hospital. Let me know what you guys think. You guys can give me some tips too. I would highly appreciate that.

(As you can see, I really like the high contrast look to my film. I always did. I can't stand soft stuff. Lol!)

Lights? Dude, those garage grabs were like dark scenes. If I wanted them to be lighter I could've opened my iris more or something. I made them dark on purpose. I like video like that. What do you mean? Please try to be more specific. Thanks!

Ok first thing I was just shooting around. I was planning the shots. Please read everything when you get my posts because I include everything that I already know. But anyway, if I would light this and plan this, how would I light it?

I don't know, I've seen movies that have this same look. My favorite one is #4 (the one where he's about to go inside the car).

[Sigh] What will it take for me to impress you guys? Lol!

Well, brian, about the "can't see his face," I love shots like this. Many movie likes "Million Dollar Baby" has this effect a lot where you can only see a portion of their face. Thanks for the tips. Even though I wasn't lighting or planning these, thanks. I was just pointing and shooting guys, keep that in mind. If I would actually do a movie I would use lighting.

Brian, how do you get edge? The key is the light in the face correct? and then the fill is from behind. and then what's the edge? I already looked it up before but I just forget which ones which.
Thanks guys! Keep them coming. Lol!

Close.

The "edge" is that little white line. You'd need a small fresnel behind him for that.
The "fill" could be a simple bounce board to lift the levels on his face or a Kino Flo.

Learn something new every time you shoot, that's all. :)
Oh, and quit calling yourself a producer!

Oh thanks Brian for the tips, and sorry for the name. My company is called Lucky Productions, and my e-mail is luckyproducer@hotmail.com because I couldn't get the name luckyproductions@"".com. I guess I just used the same name because it's easier to log on so I can remember more. Well, I will find out what a fresnel light is so I can get that edge. Right now, all I have is a work light, a white poster board, and a flood light. Been working pretty good for me so far. lol! Oh yeh, i forgot about the sun! lol! I can't invest any money on lights because I invested sooo much on this camera. *sniff* Sucks! I have two more pictures posted up at www.putfile.com/luckyproducer. They are simple DOF shots of my friend and my bro-in-law. I love this camera so much because I can easily get DOF and also I can easily get the 24p look of film. I always tried to achieve the strobing effect of film on my other cam. All of that time was wasted because now I have it on my fingertips. Lol! Sucks and doesn't suck at the same time. I have to learn a lot about lighting to shoot Broken next summer (since I postponed it). On set, I always have no clue on where to place the light. I know the basic 3 lighting thing but not all situations give me that option. And plus, I only have a certain amount of lighting. Do you think I can get pretty good results with the equipment I have (of lighting that is). Let me know. Peace!

P.S. Thanks again for the replies Brian! Everyone...keep them coming! lol!

You expect to pull the camera out of the box, dick around, and have people on this forum flipping out?

Keep shootin. :)

He's really trying to learn, so lets be nice to him.

Lighting is another topic altogether. It is possible to get pretty good results with home depot fixtures. Made-for-film lighting gear is more precise in every way and generally easier to get the results. They are color balanced to one another so you can add fixtures and remove fixtures without having to white balance again. And, they are highly focusable (or out of focus, if required). But, not having them is no excuse for not making the best with what you've got. Keep shooting. And, keep us posted (you know... by starting new threads with new projects...)

I included the smileys to indicate I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I guess trying and being are not always congruous, perhaps I should just say this - those images are pretty good, keep shooting, would like to see more. :) :) :)

Hey lucky. My Britek lights have worked very well for me, and they can pretty much fit into any budget. you should check them out. (rostronics.com).

Peace

Did you say you were going to shoot a film called "Broken"?... There's already a flick promoted right here on this sight with that name... just FYI.
