Screen Grabs from film locations: philly, reading

just a few grabs from some more locations from our films. not the film- just location shots. theres something up with my night shots- gamma's off maybe? any tips? there's noise for some reason. thanks

Keep in mind this is my first time really taking night shots. I'm not too good at the settings yet so any advice for night shooting would help a bunch!

wow thats weird I live in Reading in Berks County. crazzzy

does anyone know about the night shots? is that what its supposed to look like? It looks to me like there's a setting that is wrong. It just looks too contrasty or something.

Zach,

I think it's fine for a raw shot but if you boost your black levels, it'll look a lot better.

Zach, using Premiere Pro 1.5 but you can boost the black levels in any NLE.

Re: Screen Grabs from film locations: philly, read

Zach, if you figure out how to boost the blacks like that in vegas, will you post how you did it? Im running through the color correctors, etc. and Im not really having luck making it look like Disjectas, but Im very new to Vegas. Thanks. Nice shots by the way!

Great grabs Zach - let us know how the project goes!

P.S. By the looks of things, Reading in Philly is like Reading in the UK - expect we're 700 years older of course!! ;)

Sure thing bro.

lol yeah. philly is really old- its a lot of fun- its not reading though- I'm going to post some shots of reading too- readings a lot smaller- but it has the highest murder rate per capita in the US. I live just outside; born there- some places there are a total dump. but thats what we're lookin for

;D

Re: Screen Grabs from film locations: philly, read

Re: Screen Grabs from film locations: philly, read

What a pleasent coincidence! "My" Reading has the highest murder rate in Berkshire! :D

Seems that even though thousands of miles of water seperate us, some things are very simliar.. ;)

Re: Screen Grabs from film locations: philly, read

Re: Screen Grabs from film locations: philly, read

I drove to Philly once to see about a girl. I was in the city 6 minutes when I stopped into a store to use a bathroom and I had a gun pulled on me.

I asked him, "what's that", and when I saw it was a 9mm berreta I thought, "damn, this sucks but I sort of wish I had my dvx"

Nice grabs. One thing for framing and composition: think about negative space and think about dividing your frame into thirds horizontally and vertically. Then place your key objects on one of the 9 points of intersection created.

These aren't 'rules' but guidelines to better composition that works when it does- as always, its relative to the specific situations.

Re: Screen Grabs from film locations: philly, read

Re: Screen Grabs from film locations: philly, read

yeah i usually use the 'thirds thing,' i did it with the country shots- not really well with philly. thanks for the advice.

lmao about the gun thing- at least you're ok. funny story to tell; sounds like a nice first visit ;D
