I need a simple screen grab from a DVD (one i made from a DV tape running into my panasonic DVD recording deck, Its not protected). when i put the DVD in my laptop (pc) i can watch it using either realplayer or windvd. BUt when i try to do a simple print screen it captures all but the video portion whcih remains blank.

I did not run this through an editor so i do not have the footage. I thought this would be a simple procedure. All i need is a still photo of the closeup. Not worried about great quality. Any quick and dirty suggestions. My last resort is to litterally take a picture of the Monitor. That seems midevil in its simplicity but i cant seem to figure this out.

Vegas 6 directly import from DVD to the timeline and then you can choice the fram to grab but also some DVD players (i don't remember which ones) has functions that captures frames during plaing or you can use VirtualDub-Mod that allow you to choice the portion of dvd that you want to rip and it's free.

It will be blank if yu use Print Screen to do a screen capture, it's called Video Overlay.

In WinDVD you have a screengrab button if I remember correctly. that can save a frame to a Bitmap or JPG.
