long story short, i loaned my hvx out and somehow it got a scratch on the lens. Does anyone know if its possible to buff scratches out, its not that deep, or do i have to purchase a whole new lens/pay for putting it on and all that. If so whats the best place i could send it to and if anyone has had to do the same, what are the cost? I am located in San Francisco CA
thanks

First of all.. I'd have them pay for it. I think your best best is to contact a Panny service repair department and see what they can do. A lens is tricky so get some pro advice first.

if that party doesn't pay. I'd say to kick their ass. You should certainly follow normal legal procedures if that happens.. This is also the reason that I keep a UV filter on the front of the cam

I loaned my Century Optics 0.6x WA adapter to another forum member last year and got it back scratched. I noticed dirt on it when it was returned to me and I made a comment about it at the time, but didn't realize the lens coating was scratched until I got home and cleaned the lens.

I'm certain that the damage didn't happen while cleaning, as I had just started brushing off the crud with a synthetic brush when I saw the scratch. That convinced me never to loan out my gear again...

I too have seen this accident happen... where you put the camera away (Camera looking clean) ... and when you open it the next day, you see a big fat scratch!

A Lot of this has to do with transporting. Make sure your camera is secure without any loose ends around the lens (matte box etc.)

Of course.. this could be another case of the LENS CRITTERS! ( those little elves that live inside your lens...they are so cute... but boy are they pesky little things!)

WHy aren't you trying to get the money out of the guy who did the damage? I'm sure there's things you might be able to try. Did the person acknowledge any wrong doing?
